Resumo: To comprehend human behavior can be a very difficult task for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These children have difficulties in social interaction, and they manifest repetitive patterns. Furthermore, they present deficits in imitation which can be directly linked to impairments in social interaction skills. Taking this into account, this paper presents the serious game HiZeca, in which a virtual agent (ZECA Avatar) is able to interact with a child, in order to promote social interaction and training certain facial movements that will be validated, and that will facilitate imitation and recognition of emotions (content, sad, surprised, among others). In order to validate the system, tests were conducted with typically developing children and children with ASD. The results show that, in general, the game was accepted with a positive feedback from the children.

Resumo: The school constitutes a privileged setting for learning international scientific knowledge and
local socio-economic and political context knowledge. Selecting content to be learned in
school is a permanent tension matter of great social and political relevance. The didactic
transposition looks at how and when scientific contents ("International scientific
knowledge") are selected to be taught in school ("Knowledge to be taught") in the External
Didactic Transposition (EDT) process and how this knowledge is taught and learned at school
("Learned knowledge") in the Internal Didactic Transposition (IDT). In the EDT process,
policymakers select the knowledge to be taught in schools from international scientific
knowledge, creating national school programmes that also serve as textbook guidelines to
be used as pedagogical resources in the classroom. These decisions are subject to the
influences of several sectors of society, such as politicians, agencies, educators and other
stakeholders, and so they take a long time to be established.
This work shows how critical social issues such as the SARS-CoV-2 and Covid-19 pandemic
could disturb the usual process of didactic transposition. Indeed, usually, there is a
considerable period between the emergence of a scientific concept and its appearance in
the national curriculum called Didactic Transposition Delay (DTD). Therefore, it was expected
that the SARS-CoV-2 and Covid-19 pandemic topics would be added, in the future, to the
national curricula and textbooks of most countries. However, being a matter of great social
interest, the SARS-CoV-2 and Covid-19 pandemic topic, which emerged in late 2019 and had
a massive social impact on the whole planet in 2020, started almost immediately to be a
matter of classroom discussions between teachers and students ("learned knowledge"),
much time before textbooks were available to support the teaching and learning process and
national programmes would be published even much later. Therefore, in this process, there
was a shortcut where the SARS-CoV-2 and Covid-19 pandemic topic ("International scientific
knowledge") surpassed the curriculum step ("Knowledge to be taught") to be taught in school
("Learned knowledge") at once.

do 1.º e 2.º Ciclos do Ensino Básico.
This research aimed to analyse the contributions of combining active methodologies, namely the
Flipped Classroom and Peer Instruction with digital technologies, operationalised in the workshop classroom model, to the development of historical consciousness in the 1st (primary) and 2nd (elementary)
cycle of school students. We opted for a qualitative methodology, using case studies to understand the
phenomenon under study. Focus groups, student questionnaires, semi-structured teacher interviews,
student work and metacognition questionnaires were used to collect data. Activities were set up with
various tasks involving the use of some digital platforms as a resource for learning and exploring historical
documents, in which the aforementioned active methodologies were combined in a specific and
contextualised way, operationalised in the workshop-classroom model, with the aim of developing
students' historical thinking and consciousness, leading to their historical learning. Data analysis was
based on the techniques suggested by Grounded Theory. In general, the results suggest that: a) the digital
platforms analysed showed cognitive effects on students' historical learning, socio-emotional
contributions that refer to social and emotional issues, caused by the use of the platform, but also to its
functionalities in the construction of their historical knowledge; b) the use of the selected active
methodologies, operationalised in the classroom-workshop model for the development of students'
historical consciousness, showed cognitive and socio-emotional effects, however, less positive elements
stand out in the two active methodologies; c) the activities based on this combination allowed for the
development of students' historical consciousness through the work carried out in the designed activities
focussed on various metahistorical concepts (historical evidence, historical explanation, temporality,
change, historical empathy, multiperspectivity, historical narrative) in both cycles. So, rather than
suggesting an emerging theory that relates the use of digital technologies with active methodologies,
operationalised in the workshop-classroom model for the development of students' historical
consciousness, the aim is to provide suggestions for activities that can be replicated, with adjustments,
in other educational contexts.

do público-alvo trabalhado.
utilização.; The use of digital technologies on portable devices is a relevant strategy to address current educational
challenges. Gamification, which entails using game elements into non-gaming contexts, can be applied
to these digital technologies to provide a more engaging learning environment that can be tailored to the
needs of students at risk for specific reading learning difficulties. Based on this premise, this study was
guided by the following research question: What are the contributions of gamification in the education of
students at risk for specific reading learning disabilitiy? To answer this question, the following specific
objectives were formulated: (i) outline the principles of gamification with children at risk for specific
learning disabilities in reading; (ii) formulate and evaluate a pedagogical intervention using a gamified
mobile application aimed at teaching reading to students at risk for specific learning disabilities in reading;
(iii) make a proposal to introduce gamification into the learning of children at risk for specific learning
disabilities in reading. The research followed the qualitative approach of a development research
methodology, which is based on context-sensitive design principles, taking into account the characteristics
and responses to the intervention of the target audience. The research was conducted in two phases:
preliminary and intervention. In the preliminary phase, a heuristic evaluation of the application was
conducted, along with teacher interviews, observations of children's interaction with the application,
testing with data collection instruments, and the development of an intervention proposal. The intervention
phase consisted of three cycles of empirical testing, including the analysis and redesign of game elements
used, as well as considerations regarding the usability of the application. Data was collected through
reading assessments, observations, and a focus group. The results were compared with existing research
on gamification and usability, resulting in the formulation of fundamental recommendations for the
development of gamified educational platforms that suit the needs and challenges of children at risk for
specific reading learning difficulties. These guidelines cover various areas, including the importance of
well-planned content creation, the need for clear instructions, careful implementation of feedback,
maintaining an appropriate balance between challenges and rewards, attention to the social aspects of
gamification and user control, the importance of a clear distinction between interfaces for children and
adults, as well as the inclusion of customization and accessibility options. This research makes a
significant contribution to the field of educational technology, advancing our understanding of the
complexity of gamification and emphasizing the need to align gamification with specific educational goals,
taking into account the real context of use.

de infância e da realização de estudos autossupervisivos para a sua concretização.; The research presented in this thesis was motivated by a professional dilemma regarding the
approach to literacy during pre-school education. The thesis is theoretically framed by the main
foundations and curricular models of childhood pedagogy, as well as the theoretical approach of
multimodality. It presents the results of the research carried out to understand how children
attending pre-school education can be educated to become multimodal constructors of meaning.
The aim was to characterize pre-school children as multimodal constructors of knowledge and
assess the impact of mobilizing the theory of multimodality on the construction of the epistemology
of pre-school teachers' practice. The methodology employed involved self-study, in which an early
childhood educator served as both the researcher and the subject. In this study, self-supervision
served as a tool for self-regulation of practice, while action research was employed as both an
intervention and a professional development strategy for the educator. To disseminate the findings
effectively, the study is presented in three articles. The three articles lead to the conclusion that
pre-school children can indeed be educated as multimodal constructors of meaning. This
realization underscores the necessity of updating both the theoretical and practical approaches of
pre-school teachers. With this in mind, the thesis aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of
the significance of the multimodal approach in early childhood education pedagogy and the
practical application of self-supervisory studies for its implementation.
