Autor: Sousa, Paulo; Tereso, Anabela Pereira; Alves, Anabela Carvalho; Gomes, Liliana Gouveia da Silva
Resumo: Competitiveness in a world characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity, known by the acronym VUCA, is accelerating companies towards innovation. To ensure business continuity and control risk, companies must manage operations and projects with skilled teams and applying project management methodologies.
The research described in this paper was undertaken in a SME Portuguese company, specialized in offering research and development solutions for industry. The main goal of the research is to implement project management good practices and lean production methodologies to improve the global performance of the company. A structured and adaptive toolkit to prioritize, select, assign resources, plan, execute and monitor projects is also in development to help the company reaching its strategic goals.
The action-research methodology was used, with the researcher becoming part of the work environment, actively participating in the necessary tasks with other internal stakeholders, in a context of learning by doing. To implement the project management customized tools linked with the company strategic plan, the researcher used Business Process Management (BPM) and Lean principles. Some expected findings are the BPM customized solution implemented in the company as well as better organization and more efficient processes at the company, supported by Project Management methodologies.

Título: The role of the trainer in online courses
Autor: Dias, Ana Augusta
Resumo: This article describes the main challenges faced by teachers and trainers when guiding or
"tutoring" online courses. The focus is on their emerging role as e-tutors or e-trainers.
The challenges are related with the processes of orientation, guidance and monitoring e-learners
within an e-course.

Título: From cognitive landscapes to digital hyperscapes

Resumo: The widespread diffusion of e-Learning in organizations has encouraged the discovery of more effective ways for conveying digital information to learners, for instance, via the commonly called Learning Management Systems (LMS). A problem that we have identified is that cognitive variables and pedagogical processes are rarely taken into consideration and sometimes are confused with the mere use by learners of “diversified” hypermedia resources. Within the context of widespread dissemination of multimedia content that has followed the emergence of massive information resources, we discuss the need for more powerful and effective learner-centered tools capable of handling all kinds of design configurations and learning objects.

Título: Ecological strategies and knowledge mapping
Autor: Bidarra, José; Dias, Ana Augusta
Resumo: In this paper we discuss the concept of ecological strategy in relation to cognitive artefacts that reflect the expressive power of learners engaged in the development of significant knowledge paths. Our experiments show that learners strive to make sense of the fragmentary information surrounding them and in this endeavour they may benefit from the creation of knowledge maps, i.e. branched structures of knowledge that depart from a central node, a starting point or a homepage. In the course of creating these fractal hyperspaces on the Web, with integration of varied multimedia materials, the range of cognitive strategies used during the learning process becomes evident, both at individual and collective level. Perhaps ecological strategies may encourage a new research approach regarding the study of knowledge construction within complex hypermedia environments.
