Comunicação e moda: quando o real se realiza em signo

Abstract

A utopia do corpo perfeito levou-nos a indagar sobre a imersão da técnica na vida, isto é, sobre a fusão da bios com a technê, da hibridez entre o orgânico e o inorgânico. Um corpo corrigido por geneticistas, por mecânicos da saúde, por investigadores, por informáticos e tantos outros técnicos, que são auxiliados por uma tecnologia cada vez mais depurada. Fomos tentando perceber como é que os avanços da tecnociência e da biotecnologia, da engenharia genética, da medicina, da mecânica, da robótica, da cibernética, revolucionaram o modo como o homem se pensava enquanto identidade singular. Procuramos perceber o que está em jogo quando a ciência aspira a criar vida. Estaremos perto de enformar o humano? Se o homem se defronta com a possibilidade de alterar de um modo consciente aquilo que ele é, colocamos a questão: que tipo de humanidade e de sociedade está o homem disposto a construir no futuro? Apesar de tudo, o mundo presente mostra-nos que o corpo se tornou uma matéria inacabada, um esboço a ser corrigido. Está a abrir-se um novo horizonte, em que a tecnologia pode permitir que o “ideal” se faça. Surgem novas possibilidades, para rapidamente se transformarem em novas obrigações. É um passo muito curto o que separa “qualquer coisa pode ser feita” de “alguma coisa deve ser feita”. Foi nossa intenção auscultar se o corpo se tornou numa escrita viva, possibilitando ou não novas formas de fabricação do self, se está em causa o fabrico de uma identidade à flor da pele. Procuramos, ainda, perceber como o novo estatuto dado ao corpo permitiu que se passasse a olhá-lo como espaço de múltiplas possibilidades, ou seja, como o espaço de todos os lugares e não-lugares. Constatamos que, sob o signo do messianismo, deu-se a proliferação da cirurgia estética, que nos mostra todo o valor social do corpo, uma identidade de construção somática: um corpo perspectivado como artifício, como peça que pode ser detalhadamente modelada, ajustada e reajustada. Embora não sendo nossa intenção fazer uma História da moda, encetamos uma Breve Arqueologia e Evolução da Moda e seus Criadores. Por aí se vislumbra que o que marca é o novo, e nessa entronização do presente, da novidade, já Debord exprimia, na década de 60, que a moda repele o já visto e move-se em territórios marcados por práticas indefinidas e ilimitadas. The utopia of the perfect body has led to an investigation on the immersion of technique in life, on the fusion of bios with technê, the hybridity between the organic and the inorganic. A body corrected by geneticists, by health mechanics, by investigators, by computer engineers and many other technicians, that are helped by a more and more developed technology . We aimed at understanding how the progress of technoscience and biotechnology, of genetic engineering, of medicine, of mechanics, of robotics, of cybernetics, had a revolucionary effect in the way we think about ourselves as a singular identity. We tried to understand what is at stake when science aims at creating life. Are we close to shape the human? If we are confronted with the possibility of altering, in a conscious way, what we are, we ask the question: what kind of humanity and society are we willing to construct in the future? In spite of all, the present world shows us that the body has become an unfinished matter, a sketch to be corrected. A new horizon is being opened, in which technology can allow the “ideal” to become reality. New possibilities arise that easily become new obligations. It's a very short step between “anything can be done” and “something has to be done”. We aimed at observing if the body has become a vivid writing, giving or not the possibility of new ways of fabrication of the self, if what it is aimed is an identity in full bloom. We also tried to understand how the new status given to the body made it able to be seen as a space of multiple possibilities, as a space of all places and non-places. We confirmed, under the sign of messianism, the proliferation of aesthetic surgery, what shows us the social value of the body, an identity of somatic construction: a body seen as an artifice, as a piece that can be thoroughly modelled, adjusted and readjusted. Although it was not our intention to write a History of fashion, we included a Brief Archaeology and Evolution of Fashion and its Creators. Through it we can see that is the new that matters, and in that enthronement of the present, of the new, Debord already affirmed in the 60's, that fashion repulses what has been seen and welcomes the territories marked by indefinite and unlimited practices. One of the final aspects of our work has been Portugal Fashion and what this event encompasses.
