Abstract(s)In the first part of the chapter, an overview of policy contexts and professionalism is presented, particularly the ways in which teachers’ roles and work are defined by central governments by identifying the major trends and current challenges in the lives and work of teachers from a European standpoint. In the second part, the ways in which teachers experience policy changes in practice will be analysed through their own voices. The chapter ends with some conclusions and implications.
