Resumo(s): | Esta tese pretende apresentar as múltiplas realidades paisagísticas existentes no vale do Douro,
As imagens
memória do turista.
tempo.
This thesis aims to present the multiple landscape realities existing in the Douro valley, comparing these results with the most common image associated with tourist marketing. The most disclosed images of Douro are evermore a parcial portrait from the place that integrates the tourist memories. When a tourist walks through the Douro valley, reality diversifies, because the main tourist pathways are between Porto and Pinhão, and most of the publicity images are from the great farms upstream Pinhão. We analyze Douro areas where we identify similarities in the relation between the terrain and the river, the terrain and the buildings, and obviously, in the presence of vineyards in all those areas. But there are also exceptions, there are unique and specific characteristics for each place, that gives it authenticity. The differences are in the implantation of the vineyards, building quantity and vegetation types. Processes were identified which unveiled specific times and technics which counter the idea that entering Douro is a trip back in time. The conceived marketing image makes Douro landscape something static. An image with traditional vineyards with one row per landing following level curves, some olive trees on the highest areas and probably some grape baskets indicating its harvesting time. Reality throws us back to areas with huge chromatic variations along the year, several different types of vineyards, derelict, tree areas, orchards, etc. In the end of this investigation, we attempt to oppose the tourist dominant landscape with the other existing multiple landscape realities. |
