Data quality assessment for performance measures in the area of safety and health at work

Abstract

Data quality issues of performance measures in the area of Safety and Health at Work are ex-plored based on a set of uncertainty components previously proposed. A case study protocol is developed to ascertain the quality of such performance measures. Results provided by three case studies show that respon-dents have the perception that the performance measures used in companies are affected by the suggested un-certainty components. The results can lead to a revision of the existing data collection methods to reduce the uncertainty of such indicators. The characterization of data uncertainty can also be considered as a risk indica-tor of decisions based on these indicators. This work is part of a bigger project that aims to represent and re-duce uncertainty in performance measurement systems.
