Habitar o Mosteiro de Carvoeiro: uma leitura contemporânea do ideal monástico beneditino

Abstract

Esta tese intenta a valorização do Mosteiro Beneditino de Santa Maria de Carvoeiro, notável conjunto monástico implantado na região Minhota, na bacia média do Vale do Neiva, na freguesia de Carvoeiro. A biografia do mosteiro, altamente vinculada com a história da construção deste Lugar, entende o edifício como peça principal e geradora de toda a proposta. O levantamento métrico, espacial, histórico e representativo do mosteiro, opera de forma a compreender quais as características que definem a identidade do edifício e o contextualizam no território envolvente, apresentando-se como instrumento essencial no ato de projetar. O projeto assume-se, portanto, reduzido ao substancial, tentando transmitir a história e ideologia da vida do mosteiro, enumerando e reestabelecendo relações com o território. Uma nova forma de reutilizar o edifício, que se traduz arquitetonicamente na intervenção e criação de novos espaços e “estruturas” que fazem recordar o passado através de uma leitura contemporânea.

This dissertation is done with the intention to bring value to the Benedictine Monastery of Saint Mary of Carvoeiro, a remarkable monastery complex located in the Minho region , in the middle basin of Neiva Valley in the parish of Carvoeiro. The biography of the monastery, highly linked to the history of the rising of this parish, interprets the building as the Fundamental piece that generates the whole proposal. The metric survey, spatial, historical representation of the monastery, works in function of explaining its characteristics, which defines the building’s identity and contextualizing it in the surrounding territory. This can be seen as an essential tool on the act of designing. The project assumes, therefore, reduced to the substantial, in attempt to communicate the history and ideology of the monastery's life, enumerating and reestablishing relations with the territory. A New form of reusing a building that is translated architecturally in the form of interventions, creating new spaces and “structures” the recall the past through a contemporary language.
