Validação da versão portuguesa do Maternal Adjustment and Maternal Attitudes (MAMA)

Abstract

Neste artigo, apresentamos a versão portuguesa do questionário Maternal Adjustment and Maternal Attitudes (MAMA, Kumar, Robson, & Smith, 1984), na sua versão pré-natal, destinado a avaliar as atitudes e o ajustamento materno durante a gravidez. A versão original do instrumento, constituída por 60 itens de auto-relato, foi sujeita a um processo de tradução e retroversão e a versão portuguesa resultante foi administrada a uma amostra heterogénea de 309 grávidas (com entre 22 e 25 semanas de gestação, inclusive), utentes da Consulta Externa de Obstetrícia da Maternidade Júlio Dinis (Porto). A análise factorial, conduzida sobre os resultados obtidos na administração da versão portuguesa do MAMA, mostra que os 60 itens do instrumento são susceptíveis de se organizarem satisfatoriamente de igual forma que na versão original, distribuindo-se pelas mesmas 5 sub-escalas, com 12 itens cada, relativas às dimensões propostas pelos seus autores: imagem corporal, sintomas somáticos, atitudes para com o companheiro, atitudes perante o sexo, e atitudes para com a gravidez e o bebé. Sugere-se, no entanto, que os resultados da sub-escala ‘atitudes para com a gravidez e o bebé’ podem ser analisados em duas dimensões diferenciadas, respectivamente ‘atitudes para com a gravidez’ e ‘atitudes para com o bebé’. O estudo psicométrico certifica a fidelidade da versão portuguesa do questionário, com elevados índices de consistência interna, para um Alpha de Cronbach de 0,85 e um Coeficiente de Bipartição de 0,86. Os valores do Alpha de Cronbach e Coeficientes de Bipartição que testemunham a consistência interna das sub-escalas, são respectivamente os seguintes: 0,75 e 0,76 para a sub-escala ‘imagem corporal’; 0,62 e 0,66 para a sub-escala ‘sintomas somáticos’; 0,76 e 0,75 para a sub-escala ‘relação conjugal’; 0,82 e 0,81 para a sub-escala ‘atitudes para com o sexo’; 0,49 e 0,54 para a sub-escala ‘atitudes para com a gravidez e o bebé’. A versão portuguesa do Maternal Adjustment and Maternal Attitudes, proposta nesta artigo, revela ser um instrumento robusto e oferece todas as garantias de fidelidade e validade necessárias a sua utilização pelos investigadores e clínicos interessados em avaliar as atitudes e o ajustamento materno durante a gravidez.

This article present the Portuguese version of the Maternal Adjustment and Maternal Attitudes antenatal questionnaire (Kumar, Robson, & Smith, 1984), designed to assess the maternal adjustment and the maternal attitudes of the pregnant women. The original 60 self-report items of the questionnaire were submitted to a process of translation and retro-translation. The Portuguese version obtained was administrated to a sample of 309 pregnant women (between the 22nd and the 25th weeks of gestation, inclusive), outpatients of the Julio Dinis Maternity Hospital Obstetric Service (Porto. Portugal). The factorial analyze of the MAMA Portuguese version’s results show that the 60 items of the instrument can be satisfactorily organize, as proposed in the original version, that is 5 sub-scales with 12 items each, regarding the same dimensions suggested by the authors: body image, somatic symptoms, marital relationship, attitude to sex, attitudes to pregnancy/baby. Nevertheless, we also suggest that the results of the ‘attitudes to pregnancy/baby’s sub-scale’ can be analyzed in two separate dimensions: ‘attitudes to pregnancy’ and ‘attitudes to the baby’. The psychometric study certifies the reliability of the MAMA Portuguese version with a very good internal consistency, for a Cronbach’s Alpha of .85 and a Split-half’s Coefficient of .86. The following are the Cronbach’s Alpha and the Split-half’s Coefficient for the MAMA Portuguese version’s sub-scales: .75 and .76 for the body image’s sub-scale; .62 and .66 for the somatic symptom’s sub-scale; .76 and .75 for the marital relationship’s sub-scale, .82 and .81 for the attitude to sex’s sub-scale, .49 and .54 for the attitudes to pregnancy/baby’s subscale. The researchers and clinicians interested in assessing the mother’s maternal adjustment and maternal attitudes have now available the Maternal Adjustment and Maternal Attitudes Portuguese version questionnaire that shows to be a robust instrument with guaranty of fidelity and validity.
