Da transversalidade do eixo da Fonte Velha: uma proposta de requalificação em duas ações

Abstract

A presente investigação centra-se no projeto de requalificação do eixo da Fonte Velha, situado na vila de Ponte da Barca, distrito de Viana do Castelo. A abordagem à rua da Fonte Velha legitima-se pelo facto de integrar o centro histórico da vila, compondo o seu traçado viário e habitacional original. A escolha pelo eixo da Fonte Velha justifica-se tanto pela afinidade ao lugar como pela pertinência da abordagem de uma problemática urbanística cada vez mais comum. Com a evolução e a expansão natural dos traçados urbanos, os antigos centros perderam importância no contexto geral dos lugares. Define-se, por isso, como desafio, contrariar uma situação aparentemente irreversível e estimular os centros históricos, tendo em conta as potencialidades dos lugares e o seu património, que deve ser respeitado e incorporado nesta ação, de modo a torná-la integrada e sustentada. Este trabalho contemporâneo insurge-se perante a marcada presença histórica, sendo uma preocupação constante lidar com a sensibilidade histórica presente nos diversos elementos em simultâneo com a inserção de uma proposta de intervenção de forma a devolver a identidade do lugar, adaptada à atualidade. Procura-se, assim, mais do que recorrer ao mero restauro dos arruamentos e edifícios, apelar a uma verdadeira regeneração, sendo, necessário encontrar os mecanismos precisos de desenvolvimento de uma estratégia de intervenção que responda afirmativamente a estas problemáticas. A investigação reflete, assim, uma interpretação pessoal do sítio e do processo de regeneração urbana, pretendendo requalificar um lugar portador de histórias e vivências únicas, em conformidade com as necessidades e pré-existências locais e urbanas, repondo a descoberto a sua existência.

The present research focuses on a rehabilitation project of Fonte Velha axis, situated in the small town of Ponte da Barca, District of Viana do Castelo. The approach to Fonte Velha Street legitimates itself by the fact of integrating the historic centre of this small town composing its original trace road and housing. The choice of Fonte Velha axis is justified not only because of the affinity to the place but also because of the relevance in the approach of a more and more common urban issue. With the evolution and the natural growth of the urban planning, the old centres have lost importance in the overall context of the places. Therefore, it defines itself as a challenge to counter an apparently irreversible situation and stimulate the historic centre taking into account the potential of the places and their heritage which should be respected and incorporated in this action to make it integrated and sustained. This contemporary work rises before the marked historical presence being a constant concern to deal with the historic sensitivity present in the different elements simultaneously with the insertion of a proposal of intervention to give back the identity to the place, adapted to the present times. It is more than a mere restoration of streets and buildings. It is a real rehabilitation and for that it is necessary to find the right mechanisms to develop an intervention strategy that responds positively to these issues. The research reflects, therefore, a personal interpretation of the place and the process of urban restoration wishing to qualify a place full of history and unique experiences, according to the local and urban needs and pre-existences putting its existence in evidence.
