Minho no ano letivo 2014/2015.
quatro alunos de saxofone nas aulas com as suas queixas de dores e desconfortos;
Profissional Artística do Vale do Ave (ARTAVE).
As
É, no entanto,
This internship abstract describes a project of intervention and research, developed in the Master’s degree on Music Teaching of Minho University in the school year of 2014/2015. Its goals were: to identify which are the main body parts of saxophonists and saxophone students suffering from lesions or discomforts; to understand what is the possible relation between the physical patterns (observed during the musical performance of four saxophone students during their lessons) and their complaints about pain and discomforts; to assess the impact of such activities on students and to promote a pedagogical practice which takes into consideration the physical and muscular health of saxophone students. This work focused on the students of Music Chamber (Saxophone Quartet) of the Professional Arts School of Vale do Ave (ARTAVE). The research methodology followed the general guidelines of Action-Research. Participant’s observation (written reports and video recording) and semi-structured interviews were used to conduct the data collection. The strategies and activities were based on the scientific literature's revision of the topic and had very satisfying results on the students. It must be highlighted that the students have little knowledge about the way the body works and the lesions that can come from it. Besides this lack, one must underline the scarce and inadequate literature (specially dedicated to instruments such as the saxophone) and also the absence of clearer guidelines on the topic for the teacher (such as a method). However, after as analysis on the data collected, this project allowed to conclude that the students became more aware of the theme and the pain and discomfort they initially described were solved. For this reason, the concern with Repetitive Strain Injury prevention should be more importante for schools and teachers and more research about this matter should be developed. |
