The present study involves an investigation around the Continuous formation of teachers who teach in the Youth and Adult Education (EJA). The study had as investigative locus a Community of Practice (CoP) of Youths and Adults teachers of the Municipal Secretary Education (SEMEC) of Belém do Pará, in the Brazil. The objective of this research was to analyze how follows this formation and what are the challenges and possibilities that it provides both to the improvement of teaching in youths and adults education modality as for the personal and professional development of teachers that work there . For this purpose, we chose a research of qualitative nature, of interpretative type, searching to know through manifestations of the subject’s participants in the CoP and of their students those attending classes in the EJA, the perceptions and values built in their professional and school trajectories that much say about you themselves and about their subjectivities. The choice for this methodology allowed us to understand the meanings that the subjects participants in the group attribute to their actions as well as the challenges and opportunities of a CoP. The data collection was carried out through participant observation, the use of questionnaires and through the realization of semi-structured interviews. Based on a theoretical framework consisting in authors as Antonio Nóvoa, Donald Schön, Phillipe Perrenoud, Isabel Alarcão, among others, three categories were identified that guided our analysis process in the firs stage: (i) selection and the theoretical-methodological treatment of contents; (ii) evaluation of classes in EJA and (iii) challenges and possibilities in adult education classes. In the second stage were these three categories of analysis: (i) selection and the theoretical-methodological treatment of contents; (ii) assessment of learning and (iii) challenges and opportunities resulting from participation in the CoP. The results indicated that the configuration of classes in EJA, before and after the participation of teachers in CoP in relation to the conceptions about teaching, about teacher’s and students' roles have changed significantly, but not evenly, from a traditional design for a constructive and interactive design, considering both the teachers and the students, subject that teach and learn interactively. Regarding the curriculum, before and after the participation of teachers in the CoP, it is found that it focuses almost exclusively on teachers' decisions, though reports indicate that the teachers participants in the CoP build and develop a flexible curriculum and somehow more meaningful to students of EJA. Regarding to the evaluation, the reports point to an evaluation based mostly on quantitative aspects, most of the time, based in a written test, situation that changed after the participation of teachers in the CoP. Thereafter the evaluation has been based on qualitative and quantitative aspects, using others tools such as opinions and advice of the bimonthly wholes. However in both cases, the evaluation’s results are unsatisfactory, being required to advance in terms of evaluation conceptions of teachers. In this sense, even though the challenges and opportunities identified were subject to improvement through an ongoing process of reflection developed along the training carried out in the CoP, we believe that the continuous formation planned and executed by the Technical Team EJA (ETEJA) in collaboration with teachers, promotes and the encourages the reflection about the teaching work in modality EJA , supporting the building and the sharing of significant work proposals with impact both to the improvement of teaching in this modality, as to the professional development of teachers participants in the CoP.
