"Novos pobres" e o impacto económico, social e simbólico do RSI

Abstract

O presente trabalho resulta de um estudo exploratório de carácter empírico sobre os novos públicos do Rendimento Social de Inserção (RSI) e tem por base de análise, as histórias de vida de indivíduos com formação média ou superior, que conheceram uma vida estável no passado e que, devido à conjuntura económica, precariedade laboral crescente e problemas financeiros, se viram obrigados a recorrer ao RSI, solução que encaram como temporária. Procurámos conhecer o percurso de vida destes beneficiários do RSI e avaliar os impactos económicos, sociais e simbólicos que o recurso a esta medida social teve nas suas vidas de “novos pobres”. Focalizamo-nos ainda nos constrangimentos vividos por estes novos assistidos, relacionados com o estigma e processo de rotulagem associados ao RSI dando voz aos entrevistados na procura de alterações e novas respostas para enquadrar a medida, de forma a suavizar os impactos negativos da realidade social experienciada.

This work/study is the result of an exploratory study of empirical nature regarding the new publics living with the Social Insertion Income (SII). Information was drawn from the analysis of the life stories of individuals with medium or higher education level, that had a settled life and that due to the economic situation of crisis, were compelled to the Social Insertion Income, which they see as a temporary solution. We explored the life course of these new beneficiaries of the SII to assess the economic, social and symbolic impacts that were felt by them for being beneficiary of this social measure. We focused also at the constraints experienced by these new poors and new assisted, related to the stigma and labelling process associated to SII. we gave voice to the interviewees, so they could suggest changes and new answers regarding the social measure in order to mitigate the negative impacts from the social reality they experience.
