[Excerto] Prefácio: Em 2006 foi organizado em Portugal (Lisboa) o XV congresso mundial da União Internacional das Ciências Pré-Históricas e Proto-Históricas. A decisão de realizar em Lisboa o congresso correspondeu por um lado ao reconhecimento dos progressos significativos da investigação em pré-história no território português ao longo das duas décadas anteriores, bem como a uma lógica de renovação da própria união. Com efeito, em 2006 seria iniciada uma profunda alteração da orgânica interna da UISPP, que culminou na aprovação de novos estatutos em 2011 (no XVI congresso mundial, realizado em Florianópolis, no Brasil) e na organização de cerca de três dezenas de comissões científicas permanentes que atualmente articulam grande parte da pesquisa mundial em pré e proto-história. [Excerpt] Foreword: In 2006, the 15th World Congress of the International Union for Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sciences (IUPPS) was organised in Portugal (Lisbon). The decision to hold the congress in Lisbon resulted not only from the significant progresses in research on Prehistory in the Portuguese territory during the previous two decades, but also from a logic of renewal of the Union itself. Indeed, in 2006 a profound change in the internal structure of IUPPS began, culminating in the adoption of new statutes in 2011 (at the 16th World Congress held in Florianopolis, Brazil) and in the organisation of about three dozen permanent scientific committees currently connecting a great share of the global research in Prehistory and Protohistory.
