Population aging is already considered as a global phenomenon, which is due, among other factors, to the increased average life expectancy and the progress of good health practices. However, this excessive aging causes many difficulties and raises some challenges, which are not always easily solvable. The institutions holding the elderly are essential and an increasingly present reality today. This growth in the elderly population that we have been watching and the stunning pace of life that characterizes this society, where the affections are, unfortunately, stored in the bottom drawer, made these spaces essential organizations to the harmony of the family environment of the elderly and in the provision of care that is frequently not provided to them in the best way, due to the lack of conditions or to the lack of skills. Given this reality, this intervention was aimed at promoting active aging. To do so, we used the research-action methodology, since it was intended that the researcher and the social agents actively participated in the process, in order to change the reality of the participants. Throughout the project, socio-cultural animation was articulated as an intervention methodology, which helped to put into practice the planned activities. So, we developed several activities that aimed the personal, social, cognitive and physical development of the elderly. We also worked with the aim of providing to the old ones new learning, as well as, raise awareness among stakeholders for the importance of occupation the residents free time. The results obtained at the end of this intervention showed up that the objectives, initially, outlined for the project were achieved. With the activities driven, we contributed to an active and dignified aging. Concluding, it has been shown that they felt happier, motivated and, especially, with more will to live. |
