O Solar da Agrela: a arquitetura senhorial no Minho

Abstract

O objeto de estudo do presente trabalho é o Solar da Agrela, situado no concelho de Ponte da Barca. Trata-se de uma residência de caracter nobre, situada num ambiente rural, e que terá sido a principal habitação do responsável pela sua edificação e descendentes durante quase três séculos, estando atualmente em avançado estado de degradação. Inserido num grande conjunto, este Solar possui atualmente cerca de 33.000 m2 de terreno associado e que outrora era explorado para cultivo, sendo a principal fonte de rendimento. Além da Casa Principal, podemos encontrar ainda outras construções de apoio à transformação e armazenamento dos produtos provenientes do cultivo, assim como uma capela dos finais do século XVII que, apesar de privada, tinha a sua principal entrada no exterior da propriedade, podendo assim servir a restante população. As informações relativas a este Solar são escassas e apenas foram encontrados documentos em Arquivos Distritais e em algumas bibliografias relativas à genealogia, permitindo assim identificar as famílias a quem este pertenceu bem como conhecer algumas datas relativas à história do mesmo. Dos documentos encontrados, destaca-se um que diz respeito ao pedido de construção da capela em honra de Nossa Senhora da Esperança, que data de 1686. Além das motivações pessoais, uma vez que o Solar da Agrela atualmente pertence há minha família, a principal vontade que motivou a realização desta dissertação prende-se com o fato do arquiteto bracarense André Soares poder ter estado envolvido no projeto deste edifício. Assim pretende-se, através de uma análise a vários níveis, confirmar ou não esta possibilidade realizando um enquadramento histórico-artístico. Efetuou-se o levantamento métrico e fotográfico do edificado e através da leitura dos elementos que formam o Solar e comparando com outros exemplares, foram identificadas duas fases distintas do edifício ao nível morfológico. Desta forma, sendo o Solar da Agrela um objeto anónimo no que diz respeito ao tema da habitação nobre, este trabalho pretende disponibilizar um conjunto de ferramentas projetuais, servindo de base a futuras investigações ou intervenções, permitindo assim manter a identidade e o valor patrimonial que este possui, colocando também o edifício na discussão do tema da Casa Nobre.

The object of study of the present work is the Manor of Agrela, located in the municipality of Ponte da Barca. It is a residence of noble character, situated in a rural environment, which has been the main dwelling of the person responsible for its construction and his descendants for almost three centuries, and is currently in an advanced state of degradation. Inserted in a large group, this Manor currently has about 33,000 m2 of associated land that was once farmed for cultivation as the main source of income. In addition to the Main House, we can find other constructions supporting the transformation and storage of products from the farming, as well as a chapel from the late seventeenth century which, although private, had its main entrance outside of the property and could be attended by the surrounding population. Information on this Manor is scarce and the only documents have been found in District Archives and in some bibliographies related to the genealogy, making it possible to identify the owner families as well as some relevant dates related to its history. Of the documents found, one is related to the request for the construction of the chapel in honor of Our Lady of Hope, which dates back to 1686. In addition to personal motivations, since the Manor of Agrela currently belongs to my family, the main motivation for this essay is the fact that André Soares, a renowned Portuguese architect from the Eighteenth Century, could have been involved in the design of this building. Thus, it is intended, through a multi-level analysis, to confirm or not this possibility, performing a historical-artistic framing. A metrical and photographic setup of the building was carried out and, through the analysis of the elements that form the Manor and comparing them with examples of other contemporary manors, two distinct phases of the building were identified at a morphological point of view. In this way, since the Manor of Agrela is an unedited object regarding the theme of noble housing, this work intends to provide a set of design tools, serving as a basis for future investigations or interventions, thus allowing to maintain the identity and the patrimonial value that this one owns, also placing the building in the discussion of the theme of the Noble House.
