This research framework is within the area of Discourse Analysis and intends to study The linguistic construct of mitigation in a preschool context. We follow the perspective of Antonio Briz (1995, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010b, 2012, 2014) which considers mitigation a pragmatic category. It’s a strategy used intentionally to achieve the goals in interaction and can only be defined from the context. Briz defines it also as a rhetorical mechanism, since it is used to convince, to achieve something, to persuade and to avoid that interpersonal and social relations suffer some sort of constraint. The use of mitigation strategies is therefore part of the communicative competence of speakers. We intend to analyse aspects of this communicative competence and specifically the linguistic uses of this strategy. It is intended in particular to answer several questions: 1. how is attenuation linguistically constructed in the interlocutors is speech; 2. what kind of linguistic structures are used by the participants in the construction of their speech; 3. in which way these linguistic structures influence the interaction between the participants; 4. and which type of interaction is established in this type of context. The corpus is constituted by oral spontaneous verbal interactions, recorded in a pre-school institution, in the classroom of children with five years of age where there are a teacher, a education assistant and a group of 23 children. In the analysis we pay special attention to the structural characteristics of the interactions, particularly those shifts, taken in turn and interpersonal relationships among participants. These characteristics of interactions teacher-child, child-teacher and childchild, which allows us a better understanding of the use of mitigation by the participants. Secondly, from the proposed Albelda & Cestero (2011) we do the analysis of mitigation strategies and their characteristics.
