Linha do Corgo

Abstract

A presente investigação tem como objeto de estudo uma via-férrea atualmente inexistente – a Linha do Corgo, que conectava na sua extensão total a cidade de Chaves ao Peso da Régua –, compreendendo a paisagem envolvente como parte integrante desta Linha, e vice-versa. É desta ausência (marcada) da Linha na paisagem que a investigação se serve para estruturar um raciocínio que pretende explorar a qualidade desta circunstância e utilizá-la como fundamento à sugestão de um modo de atuação. Ao longo dos capítulos, a linha sofrerá gradualmente uma transição entre a linhade- ferro e a linha enquanto abstração e elemento geométrico, sem nunca deixar de se relacionar com a primeira. Assim, partir-se-á de um objeto de estudo real (real em oposição a uma noção abstrata), que será utilizado como portal para a um imaginário ou ficção, apreendendo-o como estímulo a uma reflexão teórico-projetual. Encaram-se a Linha e a linha como mote para o desenvolvimento de um projeto em forma de ensaio cujas componentes – gráfica e escrita – são indissociáveis. Na base deste projeto encontram-se a pesquisa e análise relativa à Linha, momento que inaugura a investigação; sucedem-lhe as fases de trabalho da proposta, e, finalmente, a respetiva.

The following research contemplates an abandoned railway as case study – the Corgo Line, which connected in total the city of Chaves to that of Peso da Régua –, understanding its landscape as part of the Line itself, and vice-versa. The railway’s absence in the landscape (which can be denounced), will be used as an instrument capable of constructing a discourse which will allow an analysis regarding what concerns this reality and a subsequent possibility of intervention. Throughout the investigation, the line will progressively be seen as a form of abstraction or concept, instead of simply the ‘railway line’, even if always returning – or responding – to the latter. Consequently, a real object (as opposed to an abstract one) will work as a starting point and will open doors to the possibility of dealing with a fictional dimension, as a stimulus for a theoretical and practical thinking. Both ‘lines’ will serve as foundation for the development of a project-essay, in which writings and graphic elements are inseparable. An objective analysis of the Line can be found as one of the first chapters of this research as it portrays the very ground in which the investigation took place; it will be followed by the intervention structure, and finally, the projection itself.
