Roland Barthes: “A língua é fascista” – aproximações a um topos da filosofia do século XX

Abstract

Na sua conferencia inaugural no Collège de France , Roland Barthes usou a frase que consta do título deste ensaio e que nos parece, hoje em dia, bastante estranha e, à primeira vista até, difícil de entender. Pretendo mostrar que esta frase se associa a um topos filosófico, cujo surgimento está vinculado a uma recepção específi ca das ideias fundamentais do estruturalismo. A articulação do topos é binária, opondo antagonicamente duas instâncias, nomeadamente a de um sistema que detém um poder máximo e ubíquo, e a de um falar e agir que combate este mesmo sistema. Barthes concebe esta oposição como aporética e dilemática, e estabelece explicitamente uma analogia entre linguagem e política. O presente ensaio tem como objetivo esclarecer a configuração específica do dito topos em Barthes, limitando-se a indicar apenas tangenc ialmente a presença do mesmo topos em outros autores da filosofi a do século XX

In his inaugural lecture at the Collège de France, Roland Barthes used the phrase that appears in the title of this essay. Nowadays, this phrase sounds rather strange and, at first glance, difficult to understand. The aim of this essay is to show that this phrase is associated with a philosophical theme, whose emergence is linked to a specific reception of the fundamental ideas of structuralism. The articulation of this theme is binary, opposing two antagonistic instances: a system that has a maxi- mum and ubiquitous power, and the individual speaking and acting that combats this system. Barthes sees this opposition as aporetic and dilemmatic, and explicitly draws an analogy between language and politics. This paper aims at clarifying the specific configuration of this theme in Barthes, mentioning only tangentially the presence of this theme in other authors of the twentieth-century philosophy
