O papel do suporte social na cirurgia bariátrica: relação com variáveis psicossociais

Abstract

A cirurgia bariátrica tem demonstrado ser o método mais eficaz e rápido de perda de peso, contudo muitos dos pacientes experienciam um aumento de peso a longo prazo. Este estudo tem como principal foco perceber o papel do suporte social na perda de peso. Para além disto, este estudo pretende perceber se há diferenças na perceção do suporte social antes e depois da cirurgia. Relativamente aos métodos, a amostra deste estudo é constituída por 135 pacientes do período pré (um dia antes da cirurgia) e pós-operatório (18, 24 e 36 meses após submetidos à cirurgia), foi recolhida no Centro Hospitalar de São João. A entrevista clínica foi feita presencialmente aquando as consultas dos pacientes. Com este estudo, observou-se que não há diferenças entre os grupos (pré e pós) cirúrgicos, ao nível da perceção do suporte social. A perceção do suporte social experienciado pelos pacientes no período pós-operatório demonstrou estar relacionada com a perda de peso após a cirurgia bariátrica. São necessários mais estudos, que envolvam amostras maiores, para perceber a relação e a influência que a perceção do suporte social pode ter nos resultados positivos da perda de peso na cirurgia bariátrica.

The bariatic surgery has been shown the most effocient and fastest method of weight loss, but some patients, at long-termn, have experiencied weight regain. This study has as main focus, to understand, the main role of society in weight loss. In addition, this study intends to understand if there are some diferences in the perception of social support before and after surgery. With to regard to the methods, the sample of this study is constituted by 135 patients of the pre period (1 day before the surgery) and postoperarive (18, 24 and 36 months after undergoing surgery), was collected in the Centro Hospitalar de São Jõao. The clinical interview was made face-to-face when patients were consulted. With this study, it was observed that there are no differences between the surgical groups (pre and postoperative), of social support perception level. The social support perception experienced by patients of the postoperative period demonstrated to be related with weight loss after the bariatric surgery. Further studies involving larger samples are needed to understand the relationship and influence that the perception of social support can have on the positive results of weight loss in bariatric surgery.
