Time Out contorna qualquer relação comercial.
The following Master’s Thesis is built on a three-month curricular internship in the Time Out Porto magazine. In this presentation, it will be initially presented a reflection about the experience of the student as an intern, from the presentation of the company to the practical work realized. Subsequently, it is discussed the essence of journalism and lifestyle journalism and its approach to what has been considered a promotional journalism. Having in mind the main objective of this research – to deepen the nature of the lifestyle phenomenon with a case study of Time Out Porto, through a comparative analysis between the magazine and blogs of the same thematic segment – the research question of this empirical study is: in what extent the speech lifestyle is different or similar in a journalistic product compared to a product not developed by journalists? In order to answer this question, were collected and scrutinized articles in the “Comer & Beber” section of the Time Out Porto magazine and publications in two blogs that address the same matter. The conclusions of the study allowed to understand that the lifestyle speech produced by the Time Out Magazine and the blogs are similar in relation to the specific characteristics of the lifestyle thematic: the fact that they all express their opinions and preferences and include, in their article, judgement tastes, practical and useful information and impartial tips for the readers. On the other side, Time Out Porto’s lifestyle speech differs from the speech produced on the blogs in what concerns to the collective speech – at Time Out Porto article’s, the collective refers to the magazine / the editorial body and not to a specific person – and as far as sponsorship is concerned – the blog Mesa Marcada presents a sponsored publication and the magazine skirts any commercial relationship.
