When the environment is meaningful man feels at home.4
“The houses of today will have to be born of us, that is, they will have to represent our needs, result from our conditions and the whole range of circumstances within which we live, in space and time.”5 Architecture and place: a fundamental combination that allows Man to dwell. For a house that seeks to live by the spirit of a place, integrating itself in it and intending to build a relationship of continuity between nature and its own interior is, first of all, important to understand this space, studying it and interpreting it, so that we can see how this place is in the world and how we also feel in it so we can finally think how the house can be in this place. It is primarily a matter of identity, and because each place has its own character - its spirit - unlike any other - Genius Loci 6- the way of inhabiting it will become equally distinct from any other. Considering this, we seek the best way to transform it into a "second nature"7, necessary for the inhabitant and responding to their specific needs. There are many factors that condition this character, acting at different scales. Thus, this process of understanding is, above all, a deconstruction of the place in layers that, separated are of different characteristics, but when together, they result in the compound that we can call the atmosphere of the place, its essence. These, ranging from a global scale to its limits, start from its climate, to the vegetation that characterizes it, to the character of the population that inhabits it and to the very form of inhabiting it, between walls. These conditions give place to others of a closer and consequent scale, such as its color, its quality and quantity of light, the solar orientation and the elements that conform it as a piece of land. In the end, we are looking for the architectural quality that preserves and gives continuity to the essence of the place combined with the new times and necessities, for a specific client that is me and my extended family, in a place that already has a meaning that appeals to memory and familiarity: "When the environment is meaningful man feels at home."8
