Resumo(s): | O presente estudo pretende analisar os níveis de stress nos profissionais de saúde e a relevância da interferência do stress e do burnout no engajamento organizacional em contexto hospitalar. Essencialmente nos profissionais de saúde esta temática constitui um problema de saúde ocupacional, identificado em diversos países europeus, incluindo Portugal. Deste modo, esta investigação visa incrementater o conhecimento sobre este problema neste contexto, tendo presente as constantes mudanças e exigências no universo organizacional da saúde.
O presente estudo enquadra-se num tipo de investigação quantitativa, correlacional e transversal. O estudo empírico envolveu um total de 221 profissionais de saúde, médicos e enfermeiros, de contexto hospitalar, da região Norte de Portugal. Todos os participantes foram avaliados através de um questionário com variáveis sóciodemográficas e sócioprofissionais e da versão portuguesa dos seguintes instrumentos de avaliação: Questionário de Stress nos Profissionais de Saúde (QSPS); Medida de “Burnout” de Shirom-Melamed (SMBM) e Escala de Engajamento face ao Trabalho (Schaufeli & Bakker, 2003) (ECT).
Os resultados do estudo evidenciaram níveis elevados de stress, relativamente ao excesso de trabalho e à carreira e remuneração. Relativamente ao burnout a dimensão mais evidenciada no estudo foi a fadiga física e no engajamento no trabalho destaca-se a dimensão da dedicação. Na análise de correlação destaca-se uma associação positiva e significativa entre stress e burnout e significativa e negativa com o engajamento.
Evidenciam-se, com particular relevância, as seguintes variáveis e fontes do stress como preditoras do engajamento no trabalho, o ter filhos, o mudar de hospital, o mudar de serviço, o local de trabalho, o lidar com clientes, as relações profissionais, os problemas familiares e, por último, as ações de formação.
No tocante à predição de burnout merecem especial destaque a fadiga física, a fadiga cognitiva e mudança de serviço. Realça-se neste estudo o nível geral de burnout entre estes profissionais de saúde, verificando-se uma predição negativa com o engajamento no trabalho. Mais especificamente, os profissionais de saúde que percebem maiores níveis de stress e burnout relatam menores níveis de vigor, de dedicação e de absorção no trabalho. The current study goal is to analyze the levels of stress in health professionals, as well as the relevance of stress and burnout on organizational engagement in a hospital setting. In the case of health professionals, stress and burnout comprise an occupational health problem, which was identified in several European countries, including Portugal. In this context, this research seeks to broaden the available knowledge on this issue, given the constant changes and demands in the organizational healthcare universe. The methodological framework used is the empirical study is of a quantitative, correlational and transversal type. We analyzed socio-demographic and socio-professional variables pertaining to the target population (doctors and nurses) in a hospital setting. The empirical study comprised a total of 221 health professionals in a hospital setting, located at northern Portugal. A questionnaire survey - Portuguese version - was administered to the research participants. The survey included the following assessment scales: Stress in Health Professionals Questionnaire (QSPS); Shirom-Melamed Burnout Measurement (SMBM) and Work-related Engagement Scale (Schaufeli & Bakker 2003) (ECT). The study findings showed high levels of stress in these health professionals and work overload concerning their wages and career. Regarding burnout, the aspect which was most evidenced was physical fatigue, while in what concerned work engagement, the most emphasized aspect was dedication. The correlation analysis highlights a strong association and significant between stress, burnout and significant and negative of these whith engagement. The strongest predictors of work engagement included: having children, changing hospitals, changing department, the workplace, working with customers, professional relationships, work problems and, lastly, training sessions. Comparatively, as a chief predictor of burnout a special emphasis is placed by physical and cognitive fatigue followed changing departments. Overall, this study findings highlight the significative and negative presence of high burnout levels amongst the health professionals, more specifically, those who experienced higher levels of stress and burnout also experienced lower levels of vitality, dedication and absorbance in their work. |
