Poluição urbana no antropoceno: os casos chinês e português

Abstract

A partir do final do século XVIII, quando principiou a Revolução Industrial, as atividades humanas começaram a ter uma grande influência sobre o clima da Terra e o funcionamento dos seus ecossistemas. Mais tarde, alguns cientistas deram-se conta de que esse impacto tinha atingido uma tal magnitude que começaram a usar a expressão ‘‘Antropoceno’’ para descrever este período. Pretende-se com este trabalho apresentar vários aspetos relevantes relacionados com a poluição urbana na China e em Portugal, incluindo factos e causas, as políticas adotadas nesta matéria e a tendência e previsões sobre a poluição nos dois países. Um outro objetivo deste trabalho é o de contribuir para a melhoria do meio ambiente e para a reflexão sobre a Terra enquanto nossa casa comum. Será que ainda temos margem e tempo para reverter e reparar os danos que lhe causámos, evitando assim a sua (e a nossa) destruição?

From the end of the eighteenth century, when the Industrial Revolution began, human activities began to have a great influence on the Earth's climate and the functioning of its ecosystems. Some scientists later realized that this impact had reached such a magnitude that they began to use the expression "Anthropocene" to describe this period. This paper intends to present several relevant aspects related to urban pollution in China and Portugal, including the facts and causes of it, the policies adopted and the tendency and predictions about pollution in both countries. Another objective of this work is to contribute to the improvement of the environment and to the reflection on the Earth as our common home. Do we still have the margin and time to reverse and repair the damage we have done to it, thus avoiding its (and our) destruction?
