Adiando a cerimônia do adeus: Um estudo com professores do IFRN sobre as representações sociais da aposentadoria e as vivências que antecedem o desligamento do trabalho

Abstract

A longevidade constitui-se em uma das maiores conquistas desde meados do século passado até os dias atuais, em nível mundial. Com o envelhecimento populacional, o tempo de vida que as pessoas passam na condição de aposentadas tem sido, cada vez mais, alargado, o que tem alterado, profundamente, o significado social da aposentadoria. Procurando agregar conhecimentos a um tema importante, emergente e atual, o presente estudo teve por objetivo investigar, com base nas representações sociais de um grupo de professores do IFRN, como é vivenciado o processo de aposentadoria, visando identificar o que os motiva a continuarem trabalhando, mesmo já tendo conquistado o direito legal de se aposentarem. Como forma de caracterizar a trajetória profissional docente utilizamos, nesta tese, o “recorte” dos Ciclos de Vida dos Professores. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de caráter qualitativo fundamentada nos contributos da Teoria das Representações Sociais, a qual fornece subsídios para compreender de que forma os sentidos e significados que os sujeitos atribuem à realidade orientam suas condutas em direção às suas escolhas e tomadas de decisão. Para tal, utilizamos a estratégia metodológica da História de Vida, a qual nos permite identificar as influências familiares, históricas e sociais na identificação dos sujeitos com o trabalho, a aposentadoria e a carreira docente. A análise e o tratamento dos dados obedeceram aos pressupostos da Análise de Conteúdo Temática, sob os preceitos de Esteves (2006). As conclusões ressaltam que os participantes desta pesquisa vivenciam o último estágio da vida profissional com realização e entusiasmo, o que foi condizente com o modelo de Gonçalves (1990). Os resultados evidenciam ainda associação negativa entre aposentadoria e envelhecimento, e a percepção do nãotrabalho como uma situação desprestigiada socialmente; a intensa centralidade do trabalho na vida dos participantes corrobora um forte apego social ao emprego e ao papel profissional, contribuindo para retardar a decisão de se aposentar.

Longevity is one of the greatest achievements since the middle of the last century to the present day, at a global level. With the aging of the population, the life span of retired people has been increasing, this fact has profoundly altered the social meaning of retirement. Seeking to aggregate knowledge to an important, emerging and current theme, the present study aimed to investigate, from the social representations of a group of IFRN teachers, how the retirement process is experienced, in order to identify what motivates them to continue working, even though they have already won the legal right to retire. As a way of characterizing the professional trajectory of teachers, we use the "profile" of the Teachers' Life Cycles in this thesis. This is a qualitative research based on the contributions of the Theory of Social Representations, which provides the means to understand how the senses and meanings that the subjects attribute to reality guide their behavior toward their choices and decision-making. For such purpose, we use the methodological strategy of the History of Life, which allows us to identify family, historical and social influences in the identification of the subjects with the job, retirement and teaching career. The analysis and processing of the data obeyed the assumptions of the Thematic Content Analysis, under the precepts of Esteves (2006). The conclusions highlight that the participants of this research experience the last stage of professional life with achievement and enthusiasm, which was consistent with the model of Gonçalves (1990). The results also show a negative association between retirement and aging, and the perception of idleness as a socially discredited situation; the intense centrality of work in the lives of the participants corroborates a strong social attachment to employment and to the professional role, contributing to delay the decision to retire.
