paradoxais.
If we consider art as a way for the human to express their feelings, something that creates and manifests Beauty, among other aspects, this can be compared to fashion, because it has some common fundamental characteristics. This project aims to explore and reflect upon the possibility of fashion being a form of art, by putting forward arguments and doubts that have arisen over time, with the objective of investigating the perceptions of individuals on a fundamental question: Is fashion a form of art? Nowadays, defining or circumscribing what art is, is complicated enough; if we put the question that fashion and its creations can be equivalent to artistic objects, the question can be even more complex. This is because fashion seems to follow two paradoxical paths. On the one hand, it has characteristics such as creativity, exclusivity, conceptual character and even legitimacy of institutions such as museums. On the other hand, fashion seems to distance itself from the notion of an artistic object, often conceived merely as clothing, something ephemeral, which is produced on an industrial scale. To this end, we intend to undergo a brief overview of the most important parts of the history of art and the history of fashion and its concepts to better understand their similarities, their differences and how they intertwine over the years. The goal is also to understand the processes that artists and designers go through until they reach the final project, the feeling and inspiration that is used for the creations, the ways in which these works are exposed to the public, what the purpose of the final work is - to express an identity, a language of its own? Protest socially? Create something beautiful? Break up with the dominant canons? Finally, the study aims, based on the previously discussed issues, to understand the social perceptions about the possibilities of fashion being art and why they consider it as such, through the analysis of the data of an inquiry. |
