dc.description.abstract | Aim: Assess Polydimethylsiloxane effectiveness on incontinence-associated dermatitis prevention. Method: We conducted a systematic review process according with the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) protocol. To build the review question was used the PICO model and for critical evidence appraisal were applied the instruments proposed by the JBI consortium. The papers search occur from May to June (2018). We consider the following databases: CINAHL® Plus; Cochrane Plus Collection; MedicLatina and MEDLINE. After rejection of duplicated articles, it was possible to subject 57 papers to a first critical assessment. Through a double-blind review process were selected for inclusion in the second phase of review a total of 11 articles. Finally, 6 articles were selected for the purposes of the present review: 2 randomized control trials, 2 intervention studies, 1 systematic review and 1 exploratory study. Results / Discussion: Incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) is a potential precursor of cracks and wounds on the skin. These can be gateways to microorganisms, bringing adverse effects to the patient and complex wound complications. In this context, prevention is fundamental. There is evidence that Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) products are more effective in preventing IAD compared to cleaning with soap and water. On the other hand, its form of application is also particularly advantageous since it cleans, cares and protects in a single operation, thus causing the skin to suffer less aggressions at the time of washing and drying. Conclusion: The use of PDMS based products and solutions should become part of the IDA prevention protocol. However, other preventive interventions should also be implemented on a regular basis. | por |
