Abstract

A presente investigação tem como finalidade aprofundar o conhecimento sociológico acerca das desigualdades sociais em grupos sociais vulneráveis em Cabeceiras de Basto e Celorico de Basto. Pretende-se compreender as relações complexas que se estabelecem entre a pobreza, a exclusão social, as políticas sociais do Estado-Providência e as estratégias dos indivíduos e famílias. Para o enquadramento desta reflexão, considerou-se pertinente o contributo teórico da sociologia clássica, sob as perspetivas durkheimiana, weberiana e marxista, e de Pierre Bourdieu. No que diz respeito à abordagem metodológica, optou-se pela investigação quantitativa e qualitativa. Num primeiro momento, foi aplicado um inquérito por questionário, procedendo-se ao tratamento e análise de dados através do software SPSS. Posteriormente, foram selecionadas algumas pessoas com vista à obtenção de informação mais aprofundada através da recolha biográfica a beneficiários/clientes dos diferentes tipos de apoios/respostas sociais. Por fim, como forma de complementar as informações obtidas, realizaram-se entrevistas semi-diretivas a técnicos de acompanhamento. Após a realização das mesmas, procedeu-se à análise de conteúdo de todas as entrevistas realizadas. Para melhor podermos enquadrar esta investigação, foi feita uma contextualização geográfica de ambos os concelhos, assim como a descrição pormenorizada das Instituições e das respostas sociais disponíveis. Após esta fase, foi feita a análise e interpretação dos dados recolhidos, permitindo-nos perceber que os indivíduos de grupos sociais vulneráveis têm vindo a melhorar as suas condições de vida ao longo dos anos, tanto pelo que é permitido pelas políticas em vigor, assim como pelas próprias mudanças ao longo das gerações. No entanto, isso acontece sem alterações de longo alcance. Deste modo, é fulcral o acompanhamento das equipas de intervenção social para a capacitação dos grupos que enfrentam situações de pobreza e exclusão social, contribuindo assim para a diminuição das desigualdades e emancipação dos indivíduos e famílias.

The current investigation has its aim to deepen the sociological knowledge on the inequalities in vulnerable social groups in Cabeceiras de Basto and Celorico de Basto. The intention is to understand the complex relationships established among poverty, social exclusion, social policies of the Welfare State and strategies of the individuals and families. In order to give background to this analysis, it was considered the importance of the theoretical contribute of the classical sociology, under the Durkheimian, Weberian, and Marxist perspectives, and also Pierre Bourdieu’s. In what concerns the methodological approach, it was chosen the quantitative and qualitative investigation. First, it was applied a questionnaire survey, whose data was processed and analyzed through the SPSS software. Afterwards, some people were selected in order to obtain more detailed information through biographical gathering to beneficiaries/clients of the different kind of social support/responses. Finally, as a way to supplement the obtained information, some semi-guided interviews were performed to support experts. After these interviews, all content was analyzed. For better supporting this investigation, it was done a geographical contextualization on both councils, as well as a detailed description of the Institutions and social responses available. After this stage, it was done the analysis and interpretation of the collected data, which allowed to understand that the individuals from vulnerable social groups have been improving their conditions of life throughout the years, both allowed by the prevailing policies, as well as the changes over the generations. However, in a widerange, that remains the same. Consequently, it is crucial to monitor the social intervention teams for the enablement of the groups that face poverty and social exclusion situations, thus helping the reduction of the inequalities and empowerment of the individuals and families.
