Do espaço representado: Guimarães e as muralhas sob a influência da fotografia

Abstract

Com o tempo, o espaço urbano modifica-se através de constantes transformações e adaptações a novas formas de viver. Este constante processo de mutação pode ser registado com o recurso à fotografia, mas também com recurso à memória de cada um, no qual o reconhecimento de um espaço é constantemente atualizado e ficcionado. Porém, a fotografia oferece um suporte concreto, uma base para a construção comum de memórias e narrativas espaciais. Neste sentido, pretende-se com esta investigação compreender a relação entre a fotografia e o espaço urbano físico da cidade de Guimarães que se desenvolveu para lá da muralha que cercou a cidade entre meados do séc. XIII e finais do séc. XVIII. Mesmo já não existindo integralmente, este elemento, na sua invisibilidade, pode assumir-se como precursor de novas realidades espaciais. Através de diferentes registos fotográficos, procuramos compreender como estes suportes são capazes de proporcionar uma compreensão alargada da ideia de “muro” como elemento ativo na especulação de diferentes cenários urbanos.

Over time, the urban space is changed through constant transformations and adaptations to new ways of living. This constantly changing process can be recorded by the use of photography, but also from the memory of each one, in which the recognition of a space is constantly updated and fictionalized. However, the picture offers a concrete support, a base for the joint construction of memories and spatial narratives. In this sense, this study is intended to understand the relationship between photography and the physical urban space of the city of Guimarães, which developed itself beyond the wall that surrounded the city from the mid 13th century to the late 18th century. Even though it no longer fully exits, this element, in its own invisibility, can be assumed as a precursor of new spatial realities. Through different photographic records, we seek to understand how they can offer a broader understanding of the idea of the “wall” as an active element in speculating different urban scenarios.
