Design e artesanato: o papel do design na regeneração da tradição cesteira às novas gerações

Abstract

Esta dissertação apresenta um estudo que teve como ponto de partida, o Design na aproximação das novas gerações com a cestaria tradicional de Penafiel. O estudo utilizou métodos participativos para primeiro compreender, numa perspetiva intergeracional, a relação aprendiz-artesão, resgatando-se a história da arte vivida pelos artesãos e clarificando os desejos e ambições para futuro referentes à cestaria. A investigação foi desenvolvida de forma a imergir progressivamente na comunidade cesteira penafidelense, iniciada com a aproximação teórica sobre o ofício, passando por uma aprendizagem técnica em contexto de workshop, até à participação ativa no contexto de trabalho e vida quotidiana do artesão. Esta imersão progressiva parece evidenciar, como a partir da análise dos sistemas envolventes da comunidade cesteira, podem surtir alternativas de aproximação geracional, e desta forma criar bases regenerativas para o ofício.

In this dissertation, a study is carried out based on the use of Design and its disciplines as a means of approximation of the new generations with the traditional basketry of Penafiel. The study uses participatory methods to obtain a greater intergenerational understanding between the apprentice-artisan relationship. On the one hand, clarify the desires and ambitions related to basketry, and on the other the awareness of the history lived by the artisans. The research was developed in order to gradually immerse itself in the Penafiel basketry community, from a theoretical understanding of the craft, through a technical learning in the context of workshop, to an active participation in the artisan's environment. This progressive immersion may evidence how the analysis of the surrounding systems of the basketry community can provide alternatives of generational approximation, and thus creating regenerative bases for the craft.
