Quality of family life for children between the ages of 0 and 3 in a rehabilitation unit

Abstract

Because of the importance of family participation, studies have been getting closer to the theme of the quality of family life, with the goal of improving the health care for children. This study has the goal of analysing the quality of family life of children between zero and three years old, who attend a rehabilitation unit of the public health service. The study involved the participation of the families of ten children with possible or present issues affecting their development, all cared for in the Specialized Center for Rehabilitation II in Santos, Brazil. The Family Quality of Life Scale was the data collection instrument used. Among the results found, we highlight the the fact that all the carers who participated were mothers, whether or not the mother had a job, the low level of school attendance and the variable relations with the quality of family life. It is hoped that this study will contribute to future research and actions on public health services focused on the family during the intervention process.

Devido à importância da participação familiar, estudos têm se aproximado do tema da qualidade de vida familiar a fim de aprimorar o atendimento em saúde com crianças. Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a qualidade de vida familiar de crianças entre zero e três anos atendidas em uma unidade de reabilitação do serviço público de saúde. Participaram do estudo familiares de dez crianças com possíveis ou já presentes alterações do desenvolvimento atendidas no Centro Especializado em Reabilitação II de Santos – Brasil. Foi utilizado como instrumento de recolha de dados a Escala de Qualidade de Vida Familiar. Dentre os resultados encontrados destaca-se a unanimidade de participação das mães, a inserção no mercado de trabalho, a baixa frequência escolar e as relações destas variáveis com a qualidade de vida familiar. Espera-se que esse estudo possa contribuir para futuras pesquisas e atuações no serviço público de saúde que focam a família no processo de intervenção
