Coparenting quality was identified as the stronger predictor of child development. However, little is known about the effects of coparenting on the development of infant self-regulation. This study aimed to analyze the effect of coparenting quality (1) reported by the mother, (2) reported by the father, and (3) the interaction between coparenting quality reported by the mother and the father, on infant self-regulation from two weeks to three months of life. A sample of 103 mothers and fathers (N = 206) was recruited during the first trimester of pregnancy and completed a sociodemographic questionnaire. Mothers and fathers completed measures to assess coparenting and infant self-regulation at two weeks and at three months postpartum. Results revealed significant effects of the interaction between time and mother's or father's parenting endorsement on infant self-regulation from two weeks to three months of life. Infants of mothers or fathers with high parenting endorsement presented a higher increase of self-regulation from two weeks to three months of life, compared to infants of mothers or fathers with low parenting endorsement. Effects of the interaction between time, mother’s, and father's parenting endorsement were also found on infant self-regulation from two weeks to three months of life. Infants of mothers and fathers with low parenting endorsement presented a lower increase of self-regulation from two weeks to three months of life, compared to the remaining groups of infants. On the other hand, infants of mothers with low parenting endorsement and fathers with high parenting endorsement presented a higher increase of self-regulation from two weeks to three months of life, compared to any of the groups of infants; although presenting lower self-regulation at two weeks than the infants of mothers with high parenting endorsement and fathers with low parenting endorsement. This study could represent a major contribute to the literature in the field of developmental and family psychopathology by analyzing the effect of coparenting on the development of the infant self-regulation during the first three months of life.
