Dificuldades na adaptação académica dos estudantes do 1º ano do Ensino Superior

Abstract

O Ensino Superior coloca diversos desafios aos estudantes que nele ingressam. A ocorrência e intensidade de tais dificuldades dependem dos níveis de maturidade e dos recursos que os estudantes conseguem mobilizar para fazer face a tais exigências. Neste artigo são analisadas as dificuldades antecipadas e sentidas por estudantes recém-chegados ao Ensino Superior, tomando o início e um ponto intermédio do 1.º semestre letivo. Uma amostra de 650 estudantes respondeu a um breve questionário contendo seis situações descritivas de possíveis dificuldades (adaptação à instituição, aprendizagem, relacionamento interpessoal, autonomia, recursos económicos e projeto vocacional). Os resultados mostram que, exceto na área da aprendizagem onde aumentam as dificuldades sentidas pelos estudantes quando comparados os dois momentos de avaliação, os estudantes diminuem os níveis de dificuldade sentida à medida que decorrem as semanas de aulas. Esta análise foi ainda realizada em função do género e da mudança de residência para frequentar o ES, evidenciando efeitos de interação destas variáveis, especialmente ao nível das dificuldades interpessoais e de autonomia. A reflexão sobre as dificuldades antecipadas e mais tarde experienciadas pelos estudantes no processo de adaptação ao Ensino Superior é importante na definição de medidas de apoio por parte das Instituições de Ensino Superior.

Higher education poses several challenges to students. The occurrence and intensity of such difficulties depend on the levels of maturity and the resources that students can mobilize to meet these demands. This article analyze the anticipated difficulties and the difficulties felt by students newly arrived at Higher Education, considering the beginning and an intermediate point of the 1st academic semester. A sample of 650 students answered a short questionnaire, including some descriptions of possible difficulties (adaptation to the institution, learning, interpersonal relationships, autonomy, economic resources and vocational project). The results show that, except in the area of learning in which the difficulties experienced by students are increased when comparing the two moments of assessment, students decrease the levels of difficulty felt as they pass as weeks of classes. This analysis was also carried out according to gender and change of residence for ES users, showing the effects of the interaction of these variables, especially in terms of interpersonal and autonomy difficulties. A reflection on the difficulties anticipated and later experienced by students in the process of adapting to Higher Education is important in the definition of support measures by higher education institutions
