“De papel crepom e prata”: uma reflexão fotoetnográfica sobre o sistema simbólico da caatinga

Abstract

Essa pesquisa trata sobre a caatinga, o socioecossistema exclusivamente brasileiro, sob a perspectiva simbólica. Explicita qual sistema simbólico (Bourdieu,1989) organiza a vida da caatinga e demonstra como este mesmo sistema lhe ordena enquanto comunidade simbólica. Direciona-se às ações humanas de produção simbólica, possibilitando outro viés de reflexão sobre essa parte específica do Brasil, ancorando-se nos estudos da Comunicação. A escolha por investigar espaços geográficos e simbólicos distante das faixas litorâneas, nos fez conhecer aspectos do Brasil real (Assis,1861), através das caminhadas (Farrero,2015) e das viagens (Martins,2091a, 2019b) que serviram como laboratório de pesquisa, estando em conexão com as metodologias que, preponderantemente, utilizamos: a pesquisa etnográfica, a entrevista etnográfica e a fotoetnografia. Com a fotoetnografia, a fotografia serviu como registro de pesquisa, como objeto de análise, instrumento para construção de narrativas e como um media acessível, mediador entre investigador, sujeitos e lócus de investigação. A realização dos estudos comparativos entre Portugal e Brasil trouxe ferramentas para a compreensão simbólica da caatinga, no que se refere, aos legados e as influências portuguesas na cultura catingueira, possibilitando descobrir e identificar fundamentos basilares que colaboram por construir a estrutura de formação do sistema simbólico. O sistema simbólico da caatinga é constituído por subsistemas formados por símbolos que interagem entre si e que promovem a interação social entre os caatingueiros, caatingueiras e a comunidade. Estes símbolos, apreendidos à medida em que se manifestaram durante o processo de investigação, ainda que tenham características tipológicas distintas, foram agrupados em subsistemas que se relacionam entre si com mobilidade e fluidez, tendo como elo primordial a memória (Halbwachs,2003). Tratamos de uma caatinga do papel crepom e prata. Se a efemeridade e beleza do crepom geralmente contrastam com a inércia e brilho precioso da prata, na caatinga simbólica, estes opostos interagem, mantendo suas identidades, de forma a constituir uma talha barroca brasileira que exige, ao mesmo tempo, imersão e distanciamento para investigá-las sob o prisma dos estudos da Comunicação.

This research deals with the caatinga, the exclusively Brazilian socio-ecosystem, from a symbolic perspective. It explains which symbolic system (Bourdieu, 1989) organizes the life of the caatinga and demonstrates how this same system orders it as a symbolic community. It is directed to human actions of symbolic production, allowing for another bias of reflection on this specific part of Brazil, anchoring itself in the studies of Communication. The choice to investigate geographic and symbolic spaces far from the coastal strips, made us know aspects of real Brazil (Assis, 1861), through hiking (Farrero, 2015) and travel (Martins, 2091a, 2019b) that served as a research laboratory, being in connection with the methodologies that we mainly use: ethnographic research, ethnographic interview and photoetnography. With photoetnography, photography served as a research record, as an object of analysis, an instrument for the construction of narratives and as an accessible medium, mediator between investigator, subjects and locus of investigation. The performance of comparative studies between Portugal and Brazil brought tools for the symbolic understanding of the caatinga, with regard to the Portuguese legacies and influences in the culture of catingueira, making it possible to discover and identify basic foundations that collaborate to build the structure of formation of the symbolic system. The caatinga symbolic system consists of subsystems formed by symbols that interact with each other and that promote social interaction between the caatingueiros, caatingueiras and the community. These symbols, apprehended as they were manifested during the investigation process, even though they have distinct typological characteristics, were grouped into subsystems that relate to each other with mobility and fluidity, having memory as a primary link (Halbwachs, 2003). We deal with a caatinga of crepe paper and silver. If the ephemerality and beauty of crepe generally contrast with the inertia and precious luster of silver, in the symbolic caatinga, these opposites interact, maintaining their identities, in order to constitute a Brazilian baroque carving that requires, at the same time, immersion and distance to investigate them from the perspective of Communication studies.
