Os repositórios institucionais e a produção científica em universidades portuguesas: panorama atual

Abstract

Os repositórios institucionais (RI) são uma ferramenta de disseminação e preservação da produção académica, integrando-se na ótica do open access, cujo princípio é permitir o acesso livre e irrestrito à produção científica. Esse acesso incita à recuperação e utilização da produção académica, favorecendo o impacto do trabalho desenvolvido pelos investigadores, também refletido a nível institucional, contribuindo para a reforma do sistema de comunicação científica. Essa visibilidade da produção intelectual, de instituições de ensino superior (IES), é passível de medição ao serem analisados, estatisticamente, o volume de depósito documental. Com referência ao momento atual, este artigo pretende mostrar, no âmbito de uma metodologia quantitativa, quais são os tipos de documentos que se apresentam em número mais elevado nos RI de cada uma das Universidades públicas Portuguesas, que integram o CRUP (Conselho de Reitores das Universidades Portuguesas) e, ainda, evidenciar quais os Repositórios com maior índice de views e downloads.

Institutional repositories (IR) are a tool for the dissemination and preservation of academic production, as part of the open access perspective, whose principle is to allow free and unrestricted access to scientific production. This access encourages the recovery and use of academic production, favoring the impact of work developed by researchers, which is also reflected at the institutional level, contributing to the reform of the scientific communication system. This visibility of intellectual productionwithin higher education institutions (HEI) can be measured by statisticalanalysis ofthe volume of document deposits. With reference to the present, this article intends to show, in the scope of a quantitative methodology, the types of documents that arepresented in a greater proportion in the IR of each one of the Portuguese public Universities, which make part of CRUP (Council of Rectors of the Portuguese Universities), and to show which Repositories have the highest index of views and downloads.
