Executive functions play an important role in regulating eating behavior. Nevertheless, there are no firm conclusions in the literature about the relationship between loss of control over eating, inhibitory control and reward sensitivity in children and adolescents. To synthesize and consolidate knowledge about this relationship, the main purpose of this systematic literature review was to understand the relationships between loss of control over eating, inhibitory control and reward sensitivity in children and adolescents. The review was conducted according to the guidelines proposed by PRISMA, through systematic search in Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed and PsycINFO. The studies that met the review's inclusion criteria were analyzed, and finally, 12 studies were included in the review. The conclusions of this review indicate that, although some studies have shown that there is no relationship between the variables, children and adolescents with loss of control over eating are more sensitive to immediate rewards and have difficulties in terms of inhibitory control. This knowledge can be useful to guide new investigations and interventions, allowing early intervention in children and adolescents, avoiding and/or minimizing the risks and consequences of problematic eating behaviors such as loss of control over eating.
