A saúde nos ecrãs informativos da televisão portuguesa

Abstract

O interesse crescente do público por assuntos de saúde junto dos meios de comunicação, aliado à ainda relevante audiência televisiva são dois dos principais motes para este trabalho. Esta investigação propõe-se caracterizar a informação jornalística, no campo da saúde, emitida pela televisão portuguesa, procurando perceber o posicionamento daqueles que se constituem como fontes de informação e os modos de produção noticiosa assumidos pelos jornalistas. Queremos, com o estudo de ambas as instâncias, compreender se o interesse do público está no centro das suas preocupações ou se, no meio destes processos, interferem outras variáveis. Eis aqui uma proposta que visa colmatar um vazio de investigação que caracteriza atualmente o campo das ciências da comunicação em Portugal, tendo em conta a responsabilidade social da televisão e a suscetibilidade da população à informação televisiva. Este pretende ser um contributo para a tímida literatura existente, e assim passando um retrato mais completo do jornalismo de saúde em Portugal. Os resultados da análise empírica, aliados à exposição teórica inicial, mostram um jornalismo de saúde com características específicas. Dentro do próprio jornalismo televisivo de saúde assistimos ao desdobrar de vários jornalismos, com os noticiários das manhãs a apostarem em espaços de entrevista e com uma emissão considerável de reportagens de investigação nos dois períodos subsequentes. No apuramento das fontes de informação, as camadas sociais (doentes, familiares e cidadão comum) são a cara da informação televisiva assente na saúde. Os processos produtivos derivam das características próprias da televisão, onde a imagem impera como vantagem face aos restantes meios e, em simultâneo, como uma das principais debilidades. As relações entre fontes e jornalistas apresentam melhorias contínuas, com espaço ainda para aperfeiçoamento no acesso dos profissionais das redações aos interlocutores da saúde. Estes não apontam um cenário especialmente negativo do jornalismo de saúde, mas sublinham a falta de rigor informativo. De ambos os lados se aponta a vantagem na aposta de formação tanto para jornalistas como para comunicadores da saúde de forma as minimizar as fragilidades dos conteúdos e processos de comunicação da saúde.

The growing public interest in health issues by the media, together with the still relevant television audience, are two of the main reasons for this investigation. This research aims to characterize the journalistic information in the health field, broadcasted by Portuguese television, trying to understand the position of those who constitute themselves as news sources and the news production ways assumed by journalists. With the study of both instances, we want to understand if the public interest is at the center of their concerns or if, in the course of these processes, other variables interfere. Here is a proposal to fill a research gap that currently characterizes the field of communication sciences in Portugal, taking into account the social responsibility of television and the susceptibility of the population to television information. This is intended to be a contribution to the small existing literature, and thus giving a fuller picture of health journalism in Portugal. The results of the empirical analysis, combined with the initial theoretical exposition, show a health journalism with specific characteristics. Within health television journalism itself, we have witnessed the unfolding of various journalisms, with morning news betting on interview spaces and with a considerable broadcast of research reports in the two subsequent periods. In the study of news sources, the social strata (patients, family and ordinary citizens) are the face of healthbased television information. The productive processes derive from the characteristics of television, where the image prevails as an advantage over other media and, at the same time, as one of the main weaknesses. Relationships between sources and journalists are continually growing, with room for improvement in the access of newsroom professionals to health interlocutors. These do not point to an especially negative scenario of health journalism, but underline the lack of informative rigor. Both sides point to the advantage of training for journalists and health communicators in order to minimize the weaknesses of health communication content and its processes.
