dc.description.abstract | The present work focuses on the study of the theme of thermal camouflage, which was driven by the scarcity of solutions and projects that allow to thermally camouflage the human body or make it totally invisible. The main objective of this study refers to the research and creation of clothing that provides the thermal camouflage of a female human body, in a previously selected diurnal and nocturnal environment, such as the creation of new concepts and design elements that enable the realization of illusions, effects and contrasts in thermal vision on clothing. Thus, this work focuses on the analysis of the colour behaviour of thermal images, through the thermal imaging camera lens, in different environments (indoor and outdoor) with the presence and absence of a dressed female human body. Therefore, various textile materials and manipulations were previously tested in a laboratory environment (with a climate chamber and a thermal manikin), simulating atmospheric temperatures captured in the intended environment for future camouflage, either of the natural space or of the human body skin. The analysis and study of the different variation factors involving thermal imaging (human body, environment, clothing/textile material), the study of thermal images through manual and digital design techniques, such as the combination of different patternmaking, sewing and printing techniques on textile materials, enabled the creation of two final prototypes (diurnal and nocturnal), with visible patterns in thermal vision and colours adaptable to the selected camouflage environment. In sum, the thermal camouflage prototypes have provided evidence of innovative elements of clothing design and fundamental solutions for thermal camouflage, where the use of textile materials with prints of different emissivities and with small embedded structures has allowed the manipulation of air between the textile material and the human body, revealing to be a differentiated process in the creation of clothing design. Therefore, taking these requirements into account, it is possible to transpose clothing beyond the visible spectrum and functional field of thermal camouflage, such as cross-checking art and science, providing a new experiential perspective in the observation and consumption of clothing. | por |
