In the last decades, there has been a change in the lifestyle of the child and adolescent population, with a decrease in healthy eating and physical activity level, which can lead to excessive anthropometric measurements and a potential association with increased blood pressure (BP). Therefore, the analysis of these relationships is fundamental for BP diagnosis in schoolchildren and to establish early prevention measures. In this sense, the aims this investigation were: i) to analyze the association between lifestyle, physical activity level and eating behavior in children and adolescents; ii) to evaluate the relationship between anthropometric indicators of obesity and eating behavior in children and adolescents; iii) to analyze the association beteween parents’ BP and children with the level of physical activity in children and adolescents; iv) to analyze the relationship between obesity, physical activity level and arterial hypertension (AH) in children and adolescents. A descriptive cross-sectional exploratory study was conducted with 336 children and adolescents, aged between 11 and 17 years of age, of both sexes, coming from private schools in the state of Paraná - Brazil. The variables studied were age, sex, body mass, height, body mass index (BMI), weight-for-height ratio (WHR), physical activity, and diet. The lifestyle profile was assessed using the "Individual Lifestyle Profile" (PEVI) questionnaire, the eating behavior was assessed by the "ELSA-Brazil Questionnaire" reduced version and the level of physical activity was measured by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) - short version. The systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP) were estabelished above the 95th percentile by sex, age and height, or ≥120/80 mmHg. Mann-Whitney, Student's t-test, Chi-square test, odds ratio (OR) and Pearson's correlation were used, with significance of 5%. The main results showed that 35.11% of the participants were overweight, 13.39% elevated WC, 40.2% were considered insufficiently active in moderate vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and 31.5% presented unfavorable PEVI. Of the 336 students, 118 parents answered the AH questionnaire (35%), of which 34.7% had a family history of AH. It was identified that 40.5% of the children and adolescents presented AH and the odds were related to elevated WC (OR = 6.11, 95% CI: 2.59-14.42) and to overweight (OR = 2.91, 95% CI: 1.76-4.79), however, those who practiced MVPA had a lower risk of high PAD (OR = 0.33, 95% CI: 0.15-0.72). In conclusion the present investigation that the frequences of overweight and low participation in physical activities were considered high. In addition, physical activity practice seems to demonstrate a protective effect on DBP, but higher SBP values are associated with the family history of AH. Thus, the importance of raising awareness of the quality of life in the family is highlighted, so that actions that encourage greater adherence to healthy habits with the purpose of promoting and protecting health, as well as reducing future vulnerabilities in children and adolescents, can be highlighted.
