Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is a serious eating disorder characterized by food restriction and heavy weight loss. Despite being a disorder that typically appears in adolescence, there are case reports of anorexia in patients in late childhood and pre-adolescence and in adult patients. Studies have tried to identify whether there are differences in the clinical presentation of Anorexia Nervosa in relation to the age at which the disorder appears, but there is still no consensus on this issue. The present study analyzed differences in the clinical presentation of patients with early, typical and late-onset Anorexia Nervosa in a Portuguese clinical sample at the beginning of treatment, in terms of clinical history, eating symptoms and symptoms of associated psychopathology. Data collected in a previous study carried out by the Research Group on Eating Disorders of the University of Minho with a clinical sample of patients diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa were analyzed. Data were processed using the IBM® SPSS® statistical analysis software. The late-onset AN group had a longer duration of untreated disease than the early-onset AN group. The early-onset group had a higher level of restriction than the other groups and the typical-onset group had higher levels of concern about food than the late-onset group. The late-onset AN group had more history of overweight and obesity, and the typical-onset group had more exercise behavior.
