A filosofia do kintsugi aplicada ao design de vestuário para uma moda mais sustentável

Abstract

A indústria têxtil tem vindo a surpreender, cada vez mais, pelo alto descarte de materiais nos aterros sanitários. Atualmente, os consumidores compram mais e também descartam mais rápido. Portanto, a indústria têxtil é uma das responsáveis por grande parte da poluição no mundo. O objetivo deste projeto é a criação de soluções para esta grande problemática, através do desenvolvimento de vestuário feito a partir de descartes pós-consumo, utilizando técnicas de reaproveitamento têxtil segundo a filosofia do kintsugi. Para chegar até à solução proposta, utilizou-se a metodologia do Design Thinking, o modelo EVOLUTION6 (desenvolvido por Katja Tschimmel), estudou-se os mercados e negócios de vestuário pós-consumo que já trabalham o upcycling para perceber de que forma fazem o redesign de peças de vestuário. Foi, ainda, realizado um questionário sobre hábitos de descarte para entender melhor como as pessoas descartam o seu vestuário e perceber se estão motivadas para aceitar o redesign das mesmas. Para a materialização de ideias, desenvolveu-se uma coleção cápsula de seis peças de vestuário feitas através de descartes têxteis com a aplicação de técnicas manuais de bordado como, o “borô” e o “sashiko” japoneses, em algumas das costuras das uniões das partes. Como forma de comunicar a coleção, foi preparada uma sessão fotográfica para a realização de um photobook assim como um vídeo reel. Com este trabalho, constata-se que tem impacto a nível ambiental (retira-se o material dos aterros), comercial (torna-se um produto diferenciado), social (pode contribuir para uma “inovação social” através de pessoas que tenham algumas habilidades manuais e que possam daqui retirar a sua independência financeira) e, por fim, cultural (valoriza o produto artesanal). Este projeto permite pensar num modelo de negócios dentro das indústrias criativas, trabalhando a moda de uma forma mais lenta e diferenciada. Não é possível à indústria têxtil de larga escala trabalhar este conceito, pois requer elevada mão de obra, avaliação da peça e trabalho intensivo de designers. Será sempre pensado numa contextualização de microempresas, e isto só é possível em meios comerciais mais pequenos, microempresas, gabinetes designers, ateliês, etc., mas que contribuirá para uma moda mais sustentável quer a nível financeiro, social e ambiental.

The textile industry has been increasingly surprising due to the high disposal of materials in landfills. Currently, consumers buy more and also discard faster. Therefore, the textile industry is responsible for much of the pollution in the world. The objective of this project is to create solutions to this great problem, through the development of clothing made from post-consumer discards, using textile reuse techniques according to the philosophy of kintsugi. To arrive at the proposed solution, the Design Thinking methodology was used, the EVOLUTION6 model (developed by Katja Tschimmel), the post-consumer clothing markets and businesses that already work with upcycling were studied to understand how they do the garment redesign. A questionnaire on disposal habits was also carried out to better understand how people discard their clothing and to see if they are motivated to accept their redesign. For the materialization of ideas, a capsule collection of six pieces of clothing was developed using textile discards with the application of manual embroidery techniques such as Japanese “borô” and “sashiko”, in some of the seams of the unions of the parts. As a way of communicating the collection, a photo session was prepared for the creation of a photobook as well as a video reel. With this work, it can be seen that it has an environmental impact (material is removed from landfills), commercial (it becomes a differentiated product), social (it can contribute to “social innovation” through people who have some manuals and that can derive their financial independence from it) and, finally, cultural (values the artisanal product). This project allows us to think of a business model within the creative industries, working fashion in a slower and more differentiated way. It is not possible for the large-scale textile industry to work on this concept, as it requires high manpower, piece evaluation and intensive work by designers. It will always be thought of in a context of micro-enterprises, and this is only possible in smaller commercial environments, micro-enterprises, designer offices, ateliers, etc., but which will contribute to a more sustainable fashion, both financially, socially and environmentally.
