The assessment and early intervention in terms of language will allow children to develop linguistic, social, emotional and cognitive skills before starting the 1st Cycle of Basic Education. The growing national and international interest reflects the need to investigate language development in preschool ages. Thus, this study aims to verify the effectiveness of an intervention program for children in pre-school education consisting of 15 sessions divided into 5 weeks, the Intervention Program in Oral Language and Emergent Literacy (PILLAR) focused on phonological awareness, oral narrative, vocabulary, invented writing and letters. The sample consists of 20 children between 4 and 6 years old. Portuguese Early Literacy Screening Tool- RaLEPE, was initially applied in the institution's classrooms as a means of early identification and analysis of children's emergent literacy and language skills. With regard to the assessment, a battery of tests from the POLLILUX project and the TL-ALPE instrument was applied and the PILLAR program implemented in the in class modality with children with and without Special Needs, in a pre-school class in an institution of the North region. From the data, we can see that the applied intervention program showed effects on the results of the intervention group, namely in the competences “Initial Phoneme”, “Syllabic Segmentation” and “Total Molly Test” present in the evaluation of the POLLILUX tests. This study reflects to be relevant, insofar as language skills in its oral aspect are precursors of learning to read and write and, subsequently, academic results. Thus, in this sense, early detection and intervention with children at risk can overcome several difficulties experienced in entering the first cycle of Basic Education.
