Morcegos, pangolins, e os humanos: lições duma pandemia

Abstract

Com o título não se pretende aferir a origem do coronavírus – assunto não ainda esclarecido –, mas expressar a indissociável conectividade global dos seres vivos e a natureza, já patente na análise inicial ao poema estóico. A pandemia mostrou ainda como a ciência labora ante o desconhecido, inovando, até ao prodígio de vacinas em poucos meses. De certo modo, o vírus é um espelho que mostra a sociedade em que vivemos, os efeitos da mudança climática – mais devastadores que a pandemia –, tal como a vulnerabilidade humana, qual estrutura de existência comum, cuja intensidade pode aumentar desigualmente em determinados contextos – os casos de ‘vulnerabilidades problemáticas’. A profusão de sentimentos e de anseios que a pandemia infunde – que o poema inicial e o romance existencialista final, a seu modo, densificam –, já suscita novas temáticas e análises filosóficas.

Chauves-souris, pangolins et humains: les leçons d'une pandémie: Résumé: Le titre ne vise pas à évaluer l'origine du coronavirus – un sujet non encore clarifié –, mais à exprimer la connectivité globale inséparable des êtres vivants et de la nature, déjà évidente dans l'analyse initiale du poème stoïcien. La pandémie a aussi montré comment la science travaille face à l'inconnu, innove, jusqu'au prodige des vaccins en quelques mois. En quelque sorte, le virus est un miroir qui montre la société dans laquelle nous vivons, les effets du changement climatique – plus dévastateurs que la pandémie –, comme la vulnérabilité humaine, comme structure d'existence commune, dont l'intensité peut augmenter de manière inégale dans certains contextes – les cas de “vulnérabilités problématiques”. La profusion de sentiments et d'angoisses que suscite la pandémie – que le poème d'ouverture et le roman existentialiste final, à leur manière, densifient – soulève déjà de nouvelles thématiques et analyses philosophiques.

Bats, pangolins, and humans: lessons from the pandemic Abstract: The title is not intended to assess the origin of the coronavirus – a subject not yet clarified –, but to express the inseparable global connectivity of living beings and nature, already evident in the initial analysis of the Stoic poem. The pandemic also showed how science works in the face of the unknown, innovating until the prodigy of vaccines in a few months. In a way, the virus is a mirror that shows the society we live in, the effects of climate change – more devastating than the pandemic – such as human vulnerability, which common existence structure, whose intensity can increase unevenly in certain contexts – cases of ‘problematic vulnerabilities’. The profusion of feelings and anxieties that the pandemic infuses – which the initial poem and the final existentialist novel, in their own way, densify – already raises new themes and philosophical analyses.
