The present study, dedicated to Portuguese as a HL in Germany, deduces some Portuguese past verb tenses with no direct equivalence in German as a possibly vulnerable linguistic domain, with aspect being of distinct relevance in both languages. Together with the analysis of spontaneous speech in Portuguese as a HL, production tasks are applied: a forced-choice test, aiming to observe mastery of the temporal aspectual opposition of pretérito perfeito (PP) and pretérito imperfeito (PI) in combination with Vendler’s (1967) aspectual classes, considering the hypothesis of cross-linguistic influence of the German dominant (majority) language on the Portuguese HL; and an acceptability test, focusing on grammatical judgment of pretérito mais-que-perfeito (PMQP) utterances, considering the input hypothesis. Within these production tasks, a pseudo-longitudinal approach is made regarding 56 (mono- and bilingual) participants, tracing the acquisitional path from infant initial state ( =8;47 years old) to the presumed adult final state ( =28;00 years old), whilst also considering the hypothesis of intergenerational influence. The analysis of the spontaneous speech corpus reveals a correct use of PP and PI tenses in, respectively, above 95% and 76% of occurrences, with residual individual intersubstitutions being principally made when associated with the aspectual class of states, which is still being acquired by the child groups tested, but then shown to have been attained at adult age. Concerning the combination of the PI with the aspectual class of achievements, some bilingual adults significantly differ from their monolingual peers, revealing difficulties in admitting durativity associated with telic predicates. Except for this condition, in all of the remaining combinations of PP/PI with vendlerian aspectual classes tested the differences found are solely due to age and not to type of speaker. In the grammaticality judgment test, the PMQP simples stands out as the condition which appears to cause difficulties to some (adult) bilingual speakers, although, individually, total scores are met also within this group. Overall results of this study contradict the hypothesis of heritage speakers’ incomplete acquisition, admitting occurrences of individual attrition. With cross-linguistic or intergenerational influence being discarded in this study, it is argued for the missing-input-hypothesis (Pires & Rothman, 2009b) in what concerns mastery of PMQP simples, presupposing that acquirable input equates the specific baseline provided to the speaker in the particular setting in which acquisition takes place.
