Comunicação de ciência por meio da arte em Portugal: estudo sobre as instituições científicas

Abstract

A Comunicação de Ciência tem uma enorme importância na atualidade, e a sua pesquisa e a prática têm aumentado nos últimos anos. Os formatos pelos quais se realizam comunicação de ciência são diversos, e um método que tem ganho bastante adesão é o uso da arte. No entanto, a exploração de SciCom por meio da arte em Portugal é, até à data, um mistério. O presente estudo desenvolveu-se no seguimento de uma experiência de estágio numa instituição científica portuguesa, no decorrer de seis meses. Na consequência desse estágio o presente relatório propôs-se a realizar o mapeamento de atividades de SciCom por meio da arte nas instituições científicas portuguesas nos últimos cinco anos. Em adição a isso apurar a forma artística mais utilizada nas atividades e apurar também as visões dos responsáveis pela comunicação das instituições sobre a união da arte aos processos de SciCom, e ainda inquirir os motivos pelos quais não utilizam a arte como meio de comunicação de ciência. Em suma os resultados mostraram que as instituições inquiridas em Portugal ainda não realizam SciCom por meio da arte em grande escala, dado que, em média apenas 28% das instituições inquiridas realizaram entre 5 e 10 atividades nos últimos cinco anos e 4% realizaram entre 10 e 30 atividades, na medida em que a forma artística mais utilizada é a fotografia. Mostra também que as visões dos diretores(as) dos gabinetes de comunicação/ representantes demonstram atitudes positivas e atitudes de encorajamento sobre realizar atividades de SciCom por meio da arte, e que consideram esta relação uma relação benéfica. No entanto, evidenciam também obstáculos e razões pelas quais não recorrem a esta prática, sendo a mais recorrente a falta de financiamento.

Science communication has enormous importance in society, and its research and practice have increased in recent years. The formats through which science communication is carried out are diverse, and one method that has gained a lot of acceptance is use of art, however, the exploration of SciCom through art in Portugal is to date a mystery. The present study was developed following an internship experience in a Portuguese scientific institution, during the course of six months and as a consequence of this internship, the present report proposed to carry out the mapping of SciCom activities through art in Portuguese scientific institutions in the last five years and in addition to that, to determine the most used artistic form in the activities and also to determine the views of those responsible for the communication of the institutions on the union of art with the SicCom processes, and also to inquire into the reasons why they do not use art as a means of communicating science. In short, the results showed that the institutions surveyed in Portugal still do not carry out SciCom through art on a large scale, with an average of only 28% of the surveyed institutions carrying out between 5 and 10 activities in the last five years and 4% carrying out between 10 and 30 activities, and the most used artistic form is photography. It also shows that the views of directors of communication offices/representatives demonstrate positive attitudes and attitudes of encouragement about carrying out SciCom activities through art, and that they consider this relationship a beneficial relationship, however, they also show obstacles and reasons for which do not resort to this practice, the most recurrent being the lack of funding.
