Conflitos semióticos na resolução de uma tarefa de testes de hipóteses de alunos do ensino superior politécnico

Abstract

Neste artigo estudam-se os conflitos semióticos experimentados por 223 alunos da Licenciatura de Engenharia Informática, do Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto, no ano letivo 2012-2013, na resolução de um problema envolvendo testes de hipóteses para a média. Usando como modelo teórico o Enfoque Ontossemiótico do conhecimento e do ensino da matemática, analisaram-se os conflitos matemáticos implícitos nas respostas dos alunos, assim como os objetos e processos matemáticos utilizados, para caracterizar os possíveis conflitos semióticos que conduziram a respostas incorretas. Em termos de resultados, para além da elevada percentagem de alunos que não responderam às questões salienta-se a existência de vários conflitos semióticos associados à formulação das hipóteses e ao cálculo da probabilidade do erro tipo I.

In this article we study the semiotic conflicts experienced by 223 students degree in Computer Engineering, at Institute of Engineering from Porto, during 2012-2013 in solving a problem involving hypothesis tests for the mean. Using the theoretical model Ontosemiotic Approach for the knowledge and teaching of mathematics, we analyzed the implicit mathematical conflicts in the answers of students, as well as objects and mathematical processes used to characterize the possible semiotic conflicts that led to wrong answers. In terms of results, in addition to the high percentage of students who did not answer the questions, we highlight the existence of several semiotic conflicts associated with the formulation of hypotheses and the calculation of the probability of type I error.
