desenvolveram materiais (BCR) semelhantes. There are more and more natural and artificial events (like earthquakes and explosions) that threaten the structural components of the built heritage. In order to try to solve this kind of problems, this dissertation, studies feature presented by some materials in their natural arrangement (auxetics materials), that could help to minimize those effects. With this characteristic, it is possible that one material acquires a negative Poisson ratio, which means it will have a transversal and longitudinal expansion, when exposed to a traction force. The main objective of this dissertation is the development of auxetic structures in composite materials. In a first phase the composite material was optimized, varying the type and percentage of the fibre; secondly, the auxetic structure was optimized. The structures were made using braided composit rods which were produced and tested concerning their physical and mechanical properties, following a methodology adopted also by other authors. The results show that the produced structures reflect an auxetic behaviour as well as a good mechanical behaviour. A comparison with the results achieved by other authors with identical BCR is also made. |
