Crowdfunding is a new financing model through online platforms. Even though this is a recent subject, it promises to change the financing process of companies, and nonprofit organizations Since this is the first paper based on a Portuguese crowdfunding platform, the author expects to give an important contribution in this research field, and also to incite other works in the area. This new funding method is based on a pretty simple concept, in which a large number of people give financial support to a specific project of an individual or of an organization. The investor may or may not get something in return, whether in the form of tangible benefits, financial return, or what they lent plus interest, depending on the type of project model. There are two kinds of projects. In the first, the project’s creator only receives the money if their goal is fulfilled during the according period of time. In the other type, the project creator receives everything he or she can raise, regardless of whether the goal is met. This work aims to manifest crowdfunding’s potential, which is namely to promote entrepreneurship and general initiatives. The researchers can conclude that, indeed, the variables that positively affect the amount raised per project are the request duration, number of investors, number of requests, valences, minimum invested with the maximum reward, and minimum invested with the minimum reward. Therefore, as the number of investors increases, the amount raised per project, in euros, also increases. |
