no século XVII.
A igreja
O pavimento exterior apresenta
dano devido assentamentos do solo. Além do dano estrutural, a igreja apresenta outros tipos
identificar as principais causas do dano estrutural existente. O trabalho envolveu a preparação
The Our Lady of Conception Church, located in village of Monforte (Portugal), is classified as a Public Interest Building. This church is part of a set of three churches (Calvary Church, the St. John the Baptist Church and the Our Lady of Conception Church), which form the magic-religious triangle of Monforte. Despite its not exactly known construction date, the existing documentation states that the Our Lady of Conception Church may have been constructed in the seventeenth century. The church is constituted by the nave, the chancel, the sacristy and the corridor to access the pulpit. The walls were built in irregular masonry stone with different thickness. The walls also have eight buttresses with different geometry. The church has been object of several rehabilitation works, which can be grouped into two main groups interventions spaced about 130 years: (a) Interventions carried out between 1775 and 1840; (b) Interventions performed in 1973. During the first period, and due to infiltration of rainwater, minor repairs were made, such as replacement of tiles. These studies were performed with use of materials compatible with the existing ones. In the second period of the works (1973) the General Directorate of National Buildings and Monuments (DGEMN) carried out the reconstruction of the roofs. Currently, the church is not in use and presents severe damage in the vault of the nave and cracks with moderate severity in the transversal walls. The external floor has damage due to the soil settlements. Besides the structural damage, the church has other types of anomalies such as moisture stains in the vaults and at the base of the masonry walls, deterioration of interior paintings, detachment of the external plaster walls, deterioration of external paints, the presence of vegetation and damage in the tiles. This study aims at evaluating the structural performance of the church and to identify the main causes of the existing structural damage. This work involved the preparation and calibration of a numerical model of reference and the nonlinear static analysis for the gravitational loads. Furthermore, three aspects that can have influence on the structure damage were considered, namely, the influence of the filling in the vaults, the influence of the structural scheme of the structure of the roof and the soil-structure interaction. The damage was evaluated based on the capacity curves, displacements and principal strains. In general, the results are similar to the crack pattern of the church an allowed to conclude that the damage seems to be related to the horizontal forces caused by the roof on the top of the walls and to the flexibility of the south part of the structure. However, it is recommended to carry out a diagnosis, namely the roof inspection and geotechnical tests, aiming at validating the previous conclusions. |
