The textile industry is considered one of the industries that uses the most resources and causes the most pollution, which brought the attention of society to itself, in a context of growing scarcity of natural resources and deterioration of the environment. This industry is based on a still predominant linear economic model, which calls into question the current way of life of humanity. This model, based on the extraction, production, use and disposal paradigm, assumes that natural resources are always available and in abundance, that is, that they are infinite. In several sectors of the economy, particularly in the textile sector, Circular Economy (CE) seeks to respond to the desire for sustainable economic growth, not only from an economic perspective, but also environmental and social, promoting the return of materials to productive process through the reuse, recovery and recycling of clothing. Buying second-hand clothing is one of these responses. In addition to the fact that there are few studies on the variables that influence the intention of the purchase of second-hand clothing, researchers have focused on studies of a more conceptual and qualitative nature, with a limitation of quantitative studies. The objective of this research is to analyze the consumer buying behavior to Circular Economy regarding the purchase of second-hand clothes based on an Extension of the traditional model of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), which includes the variables Environmental Concerns and Frugality. To test the model and the hypotheses, a quantitative methodology was developed, based on scales tested in the literature, whose survey was administered online, with 804 valid responses obtained. Descriptive analysis of the data, confirmatory factor analysis and were carried out to assess the quality of the scales and the analysis of structural equations to assess the quality of the model's fit to the data and test the hypotheses of cause-effect relationship. Of the five hypotheses considered, three were confirmed, with the intention of purchasing second-hand clothing explained in 89% by the independent variables, with Perceived Behavioral Control standing out as the variable that has the greatest explanatory capacity of intention. The main contributions of the research concern the theoretical contribution to the development of academic literature and practical knowledge on the subject, enabling the development of appropriate and effective communication strategies in the context of second-hand clothes purchase. |
