poliolefínicos; o ensaio de DSC não fornece, para estes materiais, informações acerca da miscibilidade;
This work was carried out at TMG - Tecidos Plastificados Outros Revestimentos para a Indústria Automóvel S.A, a company dedicated to the development of products for car interiors. This study aimed to characterize polymeric blends, based on thermoplastic elastomers for sheet extrusion, in order to improve the dispersion of their components. Polymeric blends are defined as the union of two or more polymeric materials that, by having a good compatibility and consequent miscibility between them, originate better mechanical properties regarding the values of each raw material (intermediate values) and show a lower cost compared to the development of new polymers. Furthermore, thermoplastic elastomers are becoming more popular in the automotive industry due to their recyclability and versatility. The development of this project included three stages: the sheet extrusion of ten different polymer blends, in which three of them have a vulcanized thermoplastic elastomer as the major component (four of them a polyolefin thermoplastic elastomer, and three of them a styrenic thermoplastic elastomer); the rheological and mechanical characterization to evaluate the dispersion of the formulations; and, finally, the discussion of the results and the comparison of all the tests performed. The results obtained enabled to identify the mixture with the best miscibility. The frequency sweep, tensile and Taber abrasion resistance tests show consistent results for the mixtures of vulcanized thermoplastic elastomers and polyolefin thermoplastic elastomers. The DSC test does not provide, for the polymer systems tested, information about the miscibility; morphological tests, such as microscopy, should be performed to complement these tests. Through the tests performed, it was found that the propenderant factor for evaluating the miscibility of the blends of TPVs and TPOs with PE is the higher molecular weight of the polyethylenes and for the TPS matrix is the chemical affinity of the heterophase polypropylene. |
